Getting ready for our Trip

This week we have taken part in a lot of our IDL topic work.  We were confident individuals learning about the process of going to the airport.  Then we went to our Oak Travel Agents to book our holiday to Australia.  The boys were able to be effective communicators to share information about their dream holiday.

They worked on their literacy skills, reading, writing and signing / speaking to tell their friends how many people were going on their holiday, the type of accommodation they would like to sleep and their mode of transport to get to Australia.

This week we were effective contributors to help make our Lamington Australian cake,  the boys listened to instructions well when baking this cake.

We had a fantastic summer trip to the Science Centre today. Lots of exhibits to explore and we visited a ‘Fun With Forces’ workshop where we worked with magnets and rockets. Our sociable lunch was pretty good too.

Australian Didgeridoo – IDL

This week for our Australian topic work we explored didgeridoo sounds. We made our own didgeridoo and enjoyed making a lot of noise.  We were confident individuals in deciding our creative colourful design for our didgeridoo.

During Music we used sticks to work on our timing and rhythm to some Australian sounds, Kenny the Kangaroo and Kookaburra songs.  They both had different speeds and the boys explored and demonstrated this well.

Our Final Pupil Council

It was the last Pupil Council meeting of this term and all the boys in Transition represented their class. They were all Confident Individuals during the week leading up to and during the meeting working hard to cast votes and come up with any new ideas to help them “Be The Best They Can Be” at school. Keiran was our spokesperson for this meeting and he did an excellent job delivering our ideas and decisions to the rest of the school representatives.

Sensory PE

The Oak boys were confident individuals when trying out the new activities in a sensory PE lesson.  The boys took part in deep pressure activities and used equipment that gave their body a lot of feedback, which will help them feel more settled.  We had lots of fun trying out all the activities!

Earth Day

The Stars class recycled batteries at Tesco’s and were ‘energy detectives’ where we checked that empty classes had remembered to turn off their lights, taps and computers. We built a dark den and read a book by torchlight. Snack time was held in the dark too. This showed us the importance of conserving energy and how difficult it would be without electricity.
