John Muir Award

The 2018/19 John Muir Group enjoyed their first visit to Dean Castle & Country Park. Neal Lochrie, Countryside Development Officer, guided us through the park (amongst the Illuminight displays!) and we selected an area suitable for our conservation project.

The children even managed to do a spot of pond dipping and discovered snails, damselflies, dragonflies and beetles hiding at the bottom of the water.  Lots of teamwork from these effective contributors. Well done !

We have been collecting leaves from our sensory garden and when we went on our social outing to the park. We were then able to reuse these leaves to create lovely pieces of artwork for our display.

Fantastic Firework Art!

The Sungazers had lots of fun in the art room creating these superb firework pictures and 3D rockets. Firstly, we discussed firework safety before the boys recycled scrap paper and made their own ‘paintbrushes’ by cutting the ends of rolled paper. Some super scissor skills and a fantastic result as I’m sure you’ll agree!

Well done to these successful learners!

FAOL – Outdoor Learning – Horror Shaped Walk

* SUCCESSFUL LEARNERS, RESPONSIBLE CITIZENS *

The Moonbeams class enjoyed a spooky Halloween themed walk. We looked at a map of our local area and planned a route so that we would walk in the shape of a witches hat.

We walked through the Kay Park looking at the monument, seen the Robert Burns statue, looked at the town landscape and found some lion statues!

Outing to the park

The boys in the Sunflowers class loved going to the park this morning. We went on the school bus so we had longer at the park. We enjoyed being in the bucket swing and climbing up and going down the slide.

FAOL: Citizenship – Halloween Pumpkins

The Bluebells have enjoyed exploring Pumpkins this week and transferring their cookery and art skills while working with them. The pupils chose some of their favourite designs and used these as inspiration while painting the Pumpkins. They worked hard and demonstrated that they are responsible by carefully cutting and scooping them.

As part of Halloween this week, the class took part in a variety of activities during our Sensory assembly and took part in a whole school costume parade.
