Number Challenge

This week’s blog challenge is all about numbers!

Using pens, paint or chalk, practise forming different numbers and then count out some everyday objects and correspond these to the numbers you have written. For example write number 6, then match 6 pieces of pasta beside the number.

For an extra challenge, you could try adding numbers together and finding how many ways you can to make the number ten.

Remember, all blog challenges are optional, and can be completed at your own pace  🙂

Here’s some examples:

On your daily walk or in your garden can you have a look around and find anything interesting that could create a lovely picture.

Theme activities

Good morning Sunflowers,

I hope you had a lovely weekend. This week the Sunflowers team thought we post some activities related to our new theme “A Bug’s Life”.

Here a some activities you could do this week.

The Sunflowers love cookery so you could make some lovely ladybird biscuits to share with your family. Colour some icing red and cover a digestive biscuit then get some black icing for the spots. Mrs Adair and myself even used some edible eyes.

You could also use your fine motor skills to create some caterpillar like bird feeders. Mrs Russell, Miss Burns and myself  found some loop cereal in our cupboard and then threaded them through some string and hung them in our garden for the bird. Before we tied them together they looked like caterpillars. Mrs Miller had some help making her bird feeder from her little girl.

We also looked at shapes. Mrs Russell created a shape picture for you to look at and find shapes and I made shapes with different objects in my garden. Can you spot some of the teddies for some of the songs we sing in class?

Remember to have fun. These are optional activities but if you do complete some please add a comment so we know what you have been up to.

The Great Outdoors – Jungle Book Theme!

The Bluebells class had begun their new theme before school stopped. We had watched clips from the Jungle Book and got to know some of the main characters.

Remind yourself of our favourite song from the film by clicking the link below…

Activity 1 🐛🐞🕷
Can you go on a bug hunt around the garden or your local area like Baloo and Mowgli did? What did you find?

Activity 2 🍌🥥🍉
This week, have a fruit tasting session. This could be one piece of fruit or a full on fruit kebab like Baloo enjoyed. Was the fruit tasty or yucky?

Activity 3 🐻
Finally can you pretend to be Baloo the bear and have a back scratch. Try and get all of your family to join in too.

Have fun and if you wish, send us some photographs or post a comment on how you are getting on!

Object Art!

Good morning everyone. I hope you are all well and keeping safe. 😊

This week the Willowbank art challenge is to create some funny faces, using random household items.

  • Can you create a portrait of yourself?
  • How much detail can you add?
  • Did you explore the different textures of the items that you used?

Have fun and take care.

Stars Activities 2

Hope you are all enjoying the good weather. Mrs Gardner and the ladies are all missing Willowbank and the Stars class.

Mrs Gardner’s daughter, Isla, made cinnamon buns. Don’t they look good. They didn’t last long!

Mrs Chisholm went a lovely walk to the Dean Castle Country Park with Evie and Owen where they saw ducks, sheep and a donkey.

At school we were learning about ‘The Great Outdoors’ by watching the DVD ‘Over the Hedge’

Maybe you’d like to do some outdoor activities at home. Choose any you wish to do. There is no obligation. Adapt any activities to suit what you have available, where you can safely access or what interests you. Ask your family to help you.

SPRING TREASURE HUNT

Try and find as many of the things on the following checklist as you can. Maybe you’d like to make a pair of binoculars to help you look!

Checklist – Try and find:-

blossom

seedlings

flower buds

flowers

insects

birds

squirrel

nest

green leaf

NATURES FACE COLLAGE

Collect a selection of stones, flowers, leaves and twigs. Use them to make a face collage. Maybe you could make faces for all your family. Count how many you’ve made.

SCIENCE – How to grow a rainbow

Mrs Westerman found a great way to make a rainbow.

  1. Draw coloured squares along the end of a strip of kitchen roll.

2. Hold paper over a saucer. Add a little water making sure the end of the paper gets wet.

3. Watch as the water creeps up the paper and makes a rainbow.

I hope you have fun doing these activities if you choose to do so. Send a photo or post a comment if you can. It would be great to hear from you.

Have Fun. Stay Safe.

Weekly Home Learning (2)

Hi guys!  Here are some activities you could complete this week. Please share any photos you have with us!  Hope everyone is staying safe – ❤

Numeracy 1⃣2⃣3⃣
What is the weather like today? 🌧 If it is raining, why not find an empty container (or carefully cut off the top of a plastic bottle) , find a flat surface outside and measure how much water has gathered in the container at the end of the day? (Don’t have a ruler? There’s an App for that!)
Or
Is it sunny outside? 🌞 If you have chalk and a flat surface why not trace round some shadows? You could draw round Mum or have have Mum draw round you! Leave the shadow for exactly one hour then go back to the same spot. Has the shadow changed position or shape?

Life-skills 🏡
Help with the washing by loading clothes from the laundry basket into the washing machine. Can you separate the clothes into their different colours? What about tops and bottoms? How many items of clothing have gone in? How many pairs of socks can you match?🧦

Literacy 🔤
One of favourite books to read in class when winding down is ‘The Dinosaur That Pooped a Planet!’ By T.Fletcher and D.Poynter. Why not listen to the story together (https://youtu.be/a82WeOmE5YM)
And complete a dinosaur craft project together. My personal favourite is making a skeleton out of pasta!
 🦖📖

Or try some shower writing. Make a room hot and steamy, take in a mirror and see how many shapes, patterns or letters you can make on the mirror.  See if you can guess what each other has drawn! 🚿〰

Music/Dance/P.E 💃🕺
Have you checked out Mrs Murray’s dance routines on Youtube? Find the links to these dances and loads more activities on our school website homepage under the heading ‘Home Learning Activities’.

*BONUS ACTIVITY*
Lockdown Journal! When it is safe to do so, all of us will be able to go back to school. I thought it would be really interesting for us all to have a great big catch up when that time comes. Why not start creating a daily or weekly journal of the time you are spending at home with family? This could take any format whether it be taking a photo a day and storing it in am album or asking an adult to help write a simple diary. I have included a template that you could use or borrow ideas from 🙂 We can’t wait to hear all about what you’ve been up to.

*These templates can be found and download for free on the Twinkl website.
