Congratulations, Laura Mitchell!

Very well done to Laura Mitchell in Primary 7! The whole class entered a national photography competition called My Place Photography. After some photography tips from Grange Art & Design Department, Primary 7 took to Kilmarnock Town Trail to take their snaps. Laura went one further and went out to take some of her own too. She managed to come third from all the hundreds of entries from all across Scotland with her photograph Caprington In The Mist. I’m sure you’ll agree it is a stunning picture of a magnificent building we have right on our doorstep! Once again, congratulations, Laura!

Feel free to log on to the My Place Photography 2018 website to see all our entries.http://www.scottishcivictrust.org.uk/about/my-place-photography/competition/competition-galleries/primary-2018/

STEM – P7 visit to Woodward Aircraft Engine Systems

Primary 7 enjoyed an excellent visit to Woodward as part of their STEM fortnight activities on Flight.

After an interesting talk on what the company does, the children broke into groups for a tour of the site. This was followed by a break for water and snacks they provided and 4 activities based on what they had seen and told about.

It really was a fantastic visit and huge thanks go to all the staff at Woodward for making us so welcome!

The final photo is Ben’s skin magnified x220! This tool is used when working with hairline cracks on an aircraft part.

E-Portfolio Workshop

As part of our improvement plan for every child to have an e-portfolio, we would like to invite parents to attend this workshop to support your child in their learning.  These 20 minute workshops will run during the school parent evenings and are open to parents in the ECC and school.

For our younger children, parents will be given their child’s username and password at the workshop.  We will show you how to post and comment on a post as this is an important part of our parental partnership.

The ECC will be open for a parent drop in session on Wednesday 11th October between 4-5pm.

Please complete the form below if you are able to attend the workshops.

Bug Club

It was lovely to meet some of our new families at a Bug Club workshop recently. It was aimed at new children in the school from P2 upwards and we hope that they are enjoying learning new reading skills with this super online resource.

Children familiar with this should all be back into the swing of Bug Club and aiming high with challenging texts from their teachers. As always please lets us know if you are experiencing any difficulties with your account.

Soon we shall look forward to meeting all our new P1 families at one of the future workshops. More details to follow.
