P5a are Global Citizens!

As a part of Global Citizenship week Base 3 have been studying Fairtrade!

We know that Fairtrade means giving producers a fair price for their hard work. We have been working in school to bring attention to Fairtrade in Gargieston!

Our Nursery Rhyme of the week is…..

One, two, three, four, five Makaton

Please try this rhyme out at home with your child pointing out the rhyming words this is very important in raising your child’s phonological awareness. Miss Clark is collecting data on the children’s knowledge and awareness of each rhyme before it becomes our focus and again after. I will share these results in pie chart form in the next few weeks. I recently attached our first pie chart on Hickory, Dickory Dock which showed an increase of knowledge and awareness when the rhyme was focused on at home and within the ECC in a partnership. Please try and incorporate this into your every day routine Nursery Rhymes are portable: Here are some examples of when they could be sang…..

*While in the car on the way to the ECC each day

*When out walking in the outdoor environment

*When your child is having a bath or shower

*Before or after story time  at home.

*While making the dinner or tidying up.

*While visiting some relatives.

Our new top tip …..

This months focus is about being face to face with your child so they can look directly at you while joining in with their play. Play with the same resources as your child and allow your child to direct the play this involves copying and responding to their actions even if this involves acting like a big kid this will really encourage your child’s active participation and encourage them to seek further interactions.

This provides your child with a positive outlook on how they see the world around them. When a child is actively listened to they feel a sense of value this also builds their confidence, self esteem and  social skills when forming positive relationships for life long learning.

Parent Council

Parent Council meeting minutes 23rd January 2018

GFG meeting 14th January 2018

School Closure 2nd March 2018

Here, for your information,  is the latest guidance which was recently posted on the East Ayrshire website:-

Following national advice and reports from the Met Office which show areas of East Ayrshire still in an Amber weather zone – and other areas at risk of snow – we are prioritising the safety and wellbeing of our young people and all schools and Early Childhood Centres in East Ayrshire will remain closed to pupils on Friday 2 March 2018.

We anticipate all schools and Early Childhood Centres will re-open as normal on Monday 5 March, but please check here and on social media for the latest updates, given the unpredictable and rapidly changing weather patterns.
