STEM Mr George Burns

Primary 6 and 7 had a visit from Mr George Burns, an electrical engineer, who spoke to use about Aviation linked to electricity.  We found out about; the history of aviation, electricity on planes and then we had the opportunity to make planes using Lollipop sticks.

Sam McCallum’s plane ‘flew’ the furthest.

Thank you Mr Burns

Grange Academy Parent Council

We have received a kind invitation from the Grange Academy Parent Council for any interested parents to go along to their meetings. This may well be of particular interest to our P7 parents, giving them an insight into life at the secondary.

The next meeting will be held in Grange on January 9th at 7pm.

P7 – Kilmarnock District History Group

Thank you to the P7 children who  have volunteered to redo scenes from our play at the Kilmarnock District History Group meeting on Tuesday 28th November.

I would appreciate it if the children could arrive at 7pm at Ayrshire College on Hill Street ready to set up. Also, the children should come dressed ready to start. Parents can simply drop the children off, but are equally welcome to come in and join the meeting. Visitors to the group pay £2 on the night.

The meeting should finish at approximately 8.45pm. All children should be picked up inside the college, as it will be very dark and the children may not know the car park area well enough to walk round.

Many thanks,

Mrs Lawson

STEM – P7 visit to Woodward Aircraft Engine Systems

Primary 7 enjoyed an excellent visit to Woodward as part of their STEM fortnight activities on Flight.

After an interesting talk on what the company does, the children broke into groups for a tour of the site. This was followed by a break for water and snacks they provided and 4 activities based on what they had seen and told about.

It really was a fantastic visit and huge thanks go to all the staff at Woodward for making us so welcome!

The final photo is Ben’s skin magnified x220! This tool is used when working with hairline cracks on an aircraft part.

World War II Play

Congratulations to all the Primary 7s who put on a fabulous performance this week based around Grammar School; Kilmarnock and events around the world during the WW2 time. They delivered their lines so well – everyone taking on at least a small part. Well done! Thanks also to some of the P5s and P6s of Base 4 for coming along to support us with the songs.

Over £170 from ticket sales will go to Poppy Scotland. Thank you!

Primary 7 Transition / Photography

Primary 7 walked up to Grange Art & Design Department to meet Miss Sharpe for her to share some top tips on capturing that perfect photograph. She talked about perspective, focal points and the rule of thirds.

Then they took those tips out into the town centre taking lots of great photos. Everyone will soon choose their favourite photo to enter the national My Place Photography run by The Scottish Civic Trust.

P7 Swimming

Every Tuesday Mrs Lawson’s class go to  The Galleon to get  swimming lessons . We go to either improve our swimming or, for the people who are unsure, learn to swim and feel more comfortable in the water. We all really enjoy going for swimming lessons because it is fun and a good experience for us as young people because swimming is a life skill and is a very crucial skill to learn . Our swimming teachers are Ron , Maureen and Anne. They are very nice and help us enjoy swimming even more! We cant wait for the next few weeks at The Galleon .
