Intergenerational Project

We had our first visit to Howard House on Thursday.  The children and residents all seemed to enjoy meeting each other for the first time.  We look forward to watching these relationships develop.

The residents enjoyed listening to our singing…

Here are some photos of our visit…

Nursery Rhyme of the week

twinkle twinkle nursery rhyme

Please click on the above link for our Nursery Rhyme of the week. You will find Makaton to go along with this Rhyme on our communication board within the ECC cloakroom. We are raising knowledge of phonological awareness and would appreciate if you could do this with your child at home emphasising the rhyming words within the rhyme and ensuring the correct word order.

Communication Survey

Please find above the link for the Communication Board Survey. This survey provides helpful feedback on ways to improve our board and aid your child’s communication at home and within the ECC so if you have a few minutes spare I would appreciate your participation. Thank you to the 36 people who have replied already. This survey is completely anonymous.

Communication Board update

This week our Nursery Rhyme of the week is Twinkle, Twinkle Little star and our Makaton signs are star and sky please see the board for a demonstration of each sign these signs will change weekly. Newly added to our board is a yellow recordable disk which will be used to record different children reciting the Nursery Rhyme of the week please press the black button to hear these rhymes. We would appreciate if you could reinforce the Nursery Rhyme and Makaton at home as this aids communication and language skills. Our top tip is still regarding watching TV and will change every two weeks. I have added a flyer about the Speech and Language Therapy Facebook page which can be found by searching Speech and Language Therapy East Ayrshire here you can find info, resources and tips to use with your child please take a look.

Makaton signs of the week are…

Our signs of the week are: Hello and Toilet.

Makaton is a language program using signs and symbols to help people communicate. It supports spoken language and eliminates the frustration for those who find it difficult to communicate effectively with the use of signs and symbols. Here at Gargieston we use Makaton on a daily basis to promote a communication rich environment through various songs and routines. We will be focusing on two signs of the week in the ECC and will share these with you on our communication board within the cloakroom. Please feel free to use these signs at home. Miss Clark, Mrs Cotton, Mrs Johnston, Miss Bryden and Miss Reid are all Makaton trained should you need any assistance on how to do these signs.
