Some of our festival winning country dancers performed a selection of dances today at a Civic Daze event in Colliston Park. This was a first public performance for some and they danced beautifully. Well done everyone and thank you to Mrs Fortnum and Mrs McMinn for supporting the dancers today.

On Saturday 25th of March, 7 pupils from P6 and P7 went along to Islecroft to watch the local football team Dalbeattie Start playing in a match against Edinburgh University. At half time, the boys were invited onto the pitch and had a penalty shoot out against each other. This was a great experience for the boys being on the full size pitch and trying to save penalties in the full sizes goal. Thank you to Dalbeattie Starr FC for inviting us to be part of the day and we look forward to joining future games and supporting the team.
Congratulations to all our Code Clubbers this week! To celebrate learning, we invited family members to our final Code Club session this term. Code Clubbers talked confidently about the animations and games they had created using their coding skills. Certificates were awarded to all, including Mr Muirhead who has been a great help at our Code Club. Miss Purdie, Development Officer, joined us to make a short movie about our Code Club. She is hoping to use this to show other schools how much fun Code Club is and hopefully encourage them to start one too! I would like to thank all parents who joined us today in this celebration. Well done to all the boys and girls who took part in the Dumfries Music and Speech Festival yesterday. The children all performed their poems very well and were a credit to the school. Each section had a significant increase in entries this year and the standards from all competitors was very high. All participants received feedback from the judge on the day. Well done to all those who achieved places within their section.
Another great week with our Code Clubbers recording their own ChatBot conversations, creating their own Boat Race games, Dodgeball games and Steady Hand tester game with a Micro:bit score recorder. Well done everyone!
Thank you to the three girls who attended my level 1 gymnastics exam with me today at Lochmaben. They were a fantastic support and a credit to the school.
Our Code Clubbers enjoyed another busy session at Code Club this week. Keira, Aimee, Millie, Logan and Aaron used code to create their own ChatBot animations. Murdo, Orla and Heather were coding to create their own Dodgeball game. Our Micro:bits arrived so Orla and Heather also investigated how to make their own interactive badge using these pocket-sized computers! Mrs Duncan even popped in to play the animations and games. Mrs Dyson and Mr Muirhead are amazed each week with how well our Code Clubbers are collaborating and progressing. Well done everyone!
Our Code Clubbers continue to develop their computer coding skills at our after-school club with Mrs Dyson and Mr Muirhead. We have five new members who are working on Module One. They have created their own Rock Band and their own Space Animation using the Scratch Coding program. Our more experienced Code Clubbers were introduced to the BBC Micro:bit today and they carried out several investigations using this pocket-sized computer. Mrs Dyson is awaiting the arrival of more Code Club Micro:bits and she is excited about using these in future challenges with our Code Clubbers. Well done everyone tonight for a super session! Well done to all gymnasts who took part in the Regional Schools Gymnastics Competition on Saturday 28th of January at the David Keswick Centre. All gymnasts performed a floor routine and carried out two competition vaults. Although no prizes this time, it was a great experience for the pupils and everyone had a fantastic day. It was a pleasure to accompany the teams to the event. Thank you to all parents, family members and friends who transported the children to the event and stayed to watch the competition. Thanks also go to Miss Niven (Active Schools Co-ordinator), Kerry Aitchison and Abigail Simpson(Secondary Pupils and volunteers from Dalbeattie High school) for helping with the coaching and support on the day of the competition.
