Dalbeattie Primary School was represented at the Remembrance Service in church today by five of our house captains accompanied by Mrs Duncan. The children and Mrs Duncan along with many other local organisations and members of the public then attended a service in Colliston Park to lay poppy wreaths at the war memorial in memory of those who have served and those who continue to serve in our armed forces around the world today.

Operation Safety Trip 14.10.16
P7 – Getting ready for Operation Safety!
In preparation for our visit to Operation Safety on Friday 14th October Primary 7 have been learning all about how keep ourselves and others safe and how to react in an emergency situation.
We have discussed and used role play to learn about a variety of different emergency situations such as road safety, electrical safety and making emergency calls. However one of our favourite tasks was revising how to put someone into the recovery position. We learned about the importance of remembering our ABC (Airways, Breathing and Circulation) before practicing the recovery position with our friends. It was great fun!!
P7 Olympic Topic
This term Primary 7 have been learning about the Ancient and Modern Olympic Games. We have investigated the history of the games, where it originated and how it came to be, and have found out how it developed into the Olympic Games we have today.
Our rich task this term was to create a board game which demonstrated team work, creativity and good knowledge and understanding of our topic.
We worked really well together to come up with ideas, to compromise and to delegate jobs.
When we were finished we presented the games to the class then shared them with P6G and P6/7B. They gave us some super feedback and all seemed to thoroughly enjoy the games.
Here are some of the finished products.
Final P7 Transition Group
The final group of P7 pupils visited Mrs Houston in the Hospitality Department at Dalbeattie High school today. The groups have all made carrot cake muffins and had their first real experiences of a secondary class and what the expectations will be in secondary school. We look forward to further transition events throughout the year linking in with different curricular areas and departments.
Transition Group at Dalbeattie High School
P7 Transition
Primary 7 pupils have started some transition work with the Home Economics Department at Dalbeattie High school. Pupils have been attending the High School on a Tuesday afternoon in small groups along with peers from our cluster schools. The children have been working with Mrs Houston during these visits to make carrot cake muffins. During the visits, the children are also experiencing what it is like to be in a secondary class/school environment and the expectations of the Home Economics Department. Thank you to Mrs Houston for supporting us with this transition work. We are hoping to visit the department again later on in the school session.
P7 Kingswood Trip – Day 1
ibike Led Cycle
Nine Primary 7 pupils took up the opportunity to participate in a led cycle through Dalbeattie forest today with Katie from ibike. Children carried out some bike and helmet checks in the playground before setting off through the forest. The group cycled through the forest stopping at various points to discuss markers, routes and aspects of nature they were seeing on their morning out. There was also an opportunity to explore the new woodland park. Well done to all those who took park and showed determination with those hills. It certainly was a lovely day to be out cycling in the forest.
