Nursery News

Over the past two weeks while Miss Carson has been on her travels, Mrs Wixon has been in the nursery covering the topic of People Who Help Us.  After getting ideas from the children, we planned some fun filled activities together.

We focused on people who help us at home, in school and in the wider community.  We went on visits to the Health Centre and Post Office.  We also had a visit from the fire brigade, a first responder, a nanny and also some special people who help us in school.

We had some great learning experiences from this topic and would like to thank all of the people for helping us by telling us how they help other people.

France comes to Dalbeattie Primary!

Last week we were very lucky to have two French teachers in school.  Madam Marolleau and Nadège Bertin were hosted by Mrs Fitzsimmons and Mrs McLean as part of the Nancy-Metz partnership with our region.  Both teachers visited classes in the primary and secondary school, presented PowerPoints, answered numerous questions (in French and English!) joined in lessons and read stories in French!  They had a great week and thoroughly enjoyed their time with all the super pupils and were very impressed by all our work.  Fantastique!

P5D Lego Robotics

Primary 5 had a fantastic morning during our ‘Lego Robotics’ Computer Xplorers workshop with Mr McGill. Pupils worked collaboratively to build lego models and then applied their programming/coding skills to animate these. We had roaring lions, moving sailboats,  spinners, a goal kicker and a goalkeeper as well as snapping crocodiles. Mrs Dyson was very proud of the teamwork skills demonstrated and the amazing robots created.

Blair – “Creating the crocodile was fun because we laughed when the crocodiles jaws snapped shut on our fingers and we joked that it had eaten our fingers.”

Sophie – “Programming the lion was easy because you just needed to follow the instructions and click the blocks together.”

Ross – “An exciting moment was when we scored with our robot goal kicker.”

Rhys and Lucy – “Creating the goalkeeper was challenging because there were lots of instructions. We felt proud of ourselves when our goalkeeper moved to save the goal from the next team’s ball.”

Everyone – “Another exciting moment was when Mr McGill introduced us to two robots which danced, dabbed and did push ups. Amazing!”

Rotary Quiz

On Wednesday 7th March, Dalbeattie Primary School were delighted to host the cluster round of this years Rotary Quiz. Teams from Dalbeattie, Palnackie, Kirkgunzeon and Colvend too part in the quiz. Mr Cathro, Mr Lumbsden and Mr Sanderson from the local Rotary Club joined pupils to co-ordinate the event. The questions were varied and suitably challenged all levels of knowledge.  Congratulations to the team from Palnackie Primary who won the cluster round and will now progress to the regional round of the quiz. Well done to the Dalbeattie team for a fantastic effort.
