SSFA Soccer Sevens Primary 6

Well done to our Primary 6 football team who took part in the SSFA regional round of the soccer sevens tournament at Palmerston Arena on 22nd of November. The team played very well together on the day and were great representatives for Dalbeattie Primary. They displayed positive attitudes on the pitch and were very sporting at all times.  Out of 8 teams they came fifth. Both Mr Cathro and myself are very proud of the boys and their team achievement. Well done.

Good luck to our P7 team as they prepare to play in their tournament on Tuesday 29th of November.

A few of our Code Clubbers were unable to make our final session of Module 1 so the photo below shows them receiving their certificates. They also shared their thoughts of Code Club. I am very proud of all their efforts over the course of Module 1.    Mrs Dyson

Code Club Congratulations!

Congratulations to all Code Clubbers who participated in Module 1. Tonight, we had a celebration session where pupils received certificates and shared their thoughts of this After-School club. Their comments are noted below. I have been very proud of all the pupils’ hard work and enthusiasm. They have learned so much about digital programming and have been great problem solvers. I would also like to thank Mr Muirhead for helping at Code Club each week.    Mrs Dyson

On Tuesday 15th of November I attended the Dalbeattie Sea Cadets trophy presentation evening. An update on the units progress over the year was given by Mrs Millar. Commanding Officer Lt(SCC) E. McVinnie RNR then provided an update on progress and achievements of the cadets. Badges and certificates were presented to cadets as well as trophies for achievements. Well done to Logan Bond for achieving the award of best Junior Cadet and to Andrew Millar who received the Endeavour Award for having a go and trying everything so far in cadets and never giving up.

Remembrance Service

Dalbeattie Primary School was represented at the Remembrance Service in church today by five of our house captains accompanied by Mrs Duncan. The children and Mrs Duncan  along with many other local organisations and members of the public then attended a service in Colliston Park to lay  poppy wreaths at the war memorial in memory of those who have served and those who continue to serve in our armed forces around the world today.

P1F – What have we been getting up to?

P1 recently learned about the importance of hand hygiene.  We put ‘pretend’ germs on our hands, washed them and then looked to see how well we had actually washed them by looking in the ultra violet light!  We learned you should wash your hands for 15 seconds and germs are hard to get rid of!!

We also had a visit from Paula Muir from Child Smile who gave us lots of advice about looking after our teeth.  We all brushed our teeth for 2 minutes and enjoyed listening to a story.

At the end of last term we had an open afternoon to share or learning and play lots of phonics games with our parents and grandparents.  We had great fun and would like to thank them all for coming!

P7 – Getting ready for Operation Safety!

In preparation for our visit to Operation Safety on Friday 14th October Primary 7 have been learning all about how keep ourselves and others  safe and how to react in an emergency situation.

We have discussed and used role play to learn about a variety of different emergency situations such as road safety, electrical safety and making emergency calls. However one of our favourite tasks was revising how to put someone into the recovery position. We learned about the importance of remembering our ABC (Airways, Breathing and Circulation) before practicing the recovery position with our friends. It was great fun!!

P6G Smoking Matters

Last week Lisa Ashby came in to talk to us about the dangers of smoking and how to say no. We looked at all the chemicals in a cigarette and we were shocked- poison and embalming chemicals? Yuck ! We tried running on the spot and breathing through a straw to see what it would be like to have lungs of a smoker. It was horrible and really difficult! We also found out that smoke can stay in a house for 6 hours, even if the doors and windows are open.  It will soon be illegal for adults to smoke in a car with children present.

Thanks to Lisa for coming in to talk to us!
