Janice Jamieson Memorial Foundation Assembly

On Friday 15th February we were joined at our assembly by Sandy Jamieson from the Janice Jamieson Memorial Foundation. Sandy provided us with an update on the work of the foundation and shared his experience of a recent trip that he had made to Malawi to experience first hand the work of the foundation. A cheque was presented to Sandy on behalf of the school with this years sponsor money for our young person Joshua whom we support through he foundation.

P2/3’s Visit from Blood Bikes

Last term P2/3 were learning about transport and as part of their topic the children asked if they could learn about the role of the Blood Bikes. Yesterday, Dave Hook from D&G Blood Bikes kindly visited our class to tell the children all about the important job they do, the different forms of transport used by them and how the service is run.

The children thoroughly enjoyed their insight into the vital role that the Blood Bike volunteers provide for our region and asked some great questions. Dave even let each child sit on ‘June’, the Blood Bike he brought with him, and everyone was given a wristband, badge and information leaflet to take home.

Macmillan Coffee Morning

Last week we held a coffee morning in nursery to raise money for Macmillan. Family and friends came to play and then we all had cake. We raised a fantastic total of £68.40. Thanks to everyone who came along. We look forward to inviting you in again when we have moved.

Remember you can buy your quizzes for £1 each from the school. they are available in many shops in the town for the local community. The prizes are tremendous!

Above, our school councillors and dinner ladies are holding a selection of the thirty collage 90s which will soon be on display in shop and business windows in Dalbeattie this weekend.

Run Doon Hame Five Capitals Challenge

Dalbeattie Primary School has been delighted to support the Run Doon Hame charity run today in school. The children have come to school in non uniform and donated £1 each for a wrist band. Then in the afternoon, the school children gathered in Colliston Park to welcome the runners as they continued on their journey. The team of five runners, all policemen, were greeted by the children before answering questions about their challenge. We found out that the challenge is to run 732 miles in one week, visiting five capital cities. The challenge started in London and will end in Edinburgh on Sunday 29th May when the team will then take part in the Edinburgh Marathon. They have raised over £7000 so far which will go to the charities ‘Westsound Cash For Kids’ and ‘Care of Police Survivors.’ Today, in school the children raised £343 to add to this. Well done and thank you to everyone for supporting this!
