Today, the whole primary school has enjoyed a fantastic day of potted sports in glorious sunny weather. The children have been in mixed age house teams as they moved round stations, which were led by the P7 young leaders and included a variety of activities such as the sack race, parachute games, fitness dancing, golf, underarm throwing, orienteering, space hoppers, hurdles, hockey, curling, football, relays, skipping and rugby passing team games. Our thanks go to Mrs Gray, yet again, for organising such a successful event. Our thanks also go to Ross Herrick and the High School Sports leaders, who have all helped too. At the time of writing, it is not yet known who will win the house shield. Last year it was awarded to Dalmun.
Primary 4-7 Sports Day June 2019
A great day was had by all at Primary 4-7 school sports day. This year, we have trialled a different way of organising it. The event lasted over a longer period of time, beginning after morning break and finishing in the afternoon. This allowed more opportunities for some extra races.
The House Shield was won by Craignair with 300 points in 1st place. In 2nd place was Dalmun with 277, 3rd was Colliston with 275 points and in 4th place was Screel with 227 points. The Girls Champion was Jennifer Taylor with joint runners up Jessica Bowden and Sophie McRobert. The Girls 300m winner was also Jennifer Taylor with runner up Amberly Wallace. The Boys Champion was Thomas Brown and Harrison Graham was runner up. The 300m cup was won by Thomas Brown and the runner up was Jamie Laurie.
The school is very grateful to Mr Drennan and this super team of sport leaders from Dalbeattie High School. Their support helped make the day go very smoothly. We are also delighted with our new podium and our thanks go to Mr Nish for making this. Also thank you to past pupil Ross Herrick who returned to help judge races. And thank you to all our spectators who came along to watch the events and to all staff who worked so hard to practice the races for today. Thanks also go to Miss Dalton who presented all the cups. Thank you all!
Primary 1-3 Sports
Today we held our Primary 1-3 sports, on a cloudy but dry day, out on the athletics grass area. The children were great and good fun was had by all. However, if anyone has some old fashioned style table spoons for the egg and spoon race, any donations would be much appreciated. We shall be dispensing with one or two after today’s races! We now look forward to Friday when we hope weather permits the Primary 4-7 Sports to go ahead. Thank you to all our parents and grandparents for coming along and for being great spectators too.
RotaKids Clean Up Community Day
New Primary 1 Taster Lunch
Today we welcomed our new Primary 1 children to a taster lunch event to try out our school dinners. This was enjoyed by all. Thank you to the kitchen staff for organising this important transition event for us. Later in the week we look forward to the children joining us again for our ‘moving up day’ on Thursday afternoon. Looking on were also our Primary 7 buddies. Our Primary 1 children will meet their buddies soon.
Netball Success
Well done to our netball teams who participated in the Stewartry netball league organised by Active Schools this term. Mrs Anderson was delighted with how all the team played and participated in the tournament. Our ‘light blue ‘ team were the overall winner this year so a huge congratulations to them.
Thanks to Mrs Anderson, Mrs Cox and Mrs Blackwood for giving up their time to coach the teams and support them each Monday during the league season.
Sponsored Cycle Results
The winning house at our sponsored cycle event held on 1st of June was Craignair. The team cycled the furthers distance and raised the most money for school funds. Their overall distance was 91.7km and with a total of £504.77 raised. Over all from all house sponsorship money we have raised a total of £1094.44 to go towards school funds.
Thank you to Bob and Linda from Dalbeattie Lions Club and Adam from GGB for joining us at assembly to present the trophy and medals.
Thank you again to pupils, staff, family and friends for supporting Dalbeattie Primary School with this fundraising event.
Awards 31.5.19
On Friday 31st May, we had our assembly in the Heughan Hall due to rain bringing the Queen of The South Football Coaching indoors to our own Primary Hall. Once more, we had many very deserving Head Teacher’ Award winners. We were also treated to a display by some of our recent gymnastic finalists. Also exciting was the presentation of certificates to our winners of the Horse Riding Competition.
D Day Poppies
Remember how, at the old school, we sowed poppies to harvest the petals for the Remembrance Service in September 2014 in Colliston Park to mark the 100 year anniversary of the start of WW1? Well today, they are starting to bloom again, just in time for the 75th anniversary of WW2 D Day. Soon, we will be sowing more seeds in our new school grounds and hopefully they will be blooming later this year.
