Play Leaders

Our newly appointed sports captains and vice captains undertook their first training session with Amy Niven from Active School to become Play Leaders. This training involves thinking about games and activities that they can use in the playground with other children to encourage play and physical activity. They have a further few sessions and then hopefully we will see them out in the playground leading some fun sessions for others.

Six of our P7 girls participated in the Stewartry Netball Trials tonight at Dalbeattie Learning Campus. Those participating from across the Stewartry Schools were put through their paces by active schools netball coaches Liz and Kerry.

We look forward to hearing how they all got on from Amy our Active Schools Co-ordinator in due course.

Maths Outdoor Learning – Maths Week Scotland

Nursery and pupils from P1 and P1/2 participated in outdoor maths sessions today as part of Maths Weeks Scotland. These sessions were funded through grants received by the local authority and a contribution from school. Parents joined us for nursery and P1 sessions. Thank you to those of you that managed to come along and join us. The children all had a great time counting, sorting, measuring and sharing the learning together.

Attached is a booklet that may also be of interest as a follow-up to the sessions.

Assembly and Head Teacher’s Awards

We were joined in assembly today by PC Blacklock. PC Blacklock is our school community police officer and she joined us to tell the children about her role and to remind everyone about behaviour when out and about in the local community and how we treat others.

Awards were given out today for increased confidence, great descriptive writing, making good choices, settling into new classes and showing kindness. Well done to all award winners.

A few reminders were also shared at assembly about not being on bikes or scooters in the pedestrian  area or school playground, internet safety and how we treat others  online and litter in the playground. I am sure the children will be able to tell you more.

The lost property trolley was also shown to the whole school as there are a significant number of school jumpers( with no names) accumulating on it. Hopefully some of these jumpers will make their way home with the children,.

House and Sports Captain Posters

Tomorrow the staff and children in school will be voting for this years house and sports captains. Those that are standing for these posts had to create posters and short videos about themselves and gives reasons as to why they would make a good house or sports captain. There have been 21 P7s put themselves forward for these roles which is fantastic to see. Pictures showcasing posters are below and we will let you know about successful candidates in due course.

After School Netball

We had our first after school netball club today for P4 and P5 classes. Miss Aitchison from active schools and Mrs Cox from school ran this session. It was great to see such enthusiasm from all the children taking part. Over the next 3 weeks they will learn and develop keys skills in netball.
