World book day tokens are coming home with the children this week in school. Pupils will receive one each. The tokens are valid until 31st March. They can be used in Dalbeattie Book Shop who will have a range of the free £1 books for which one token can be exchanged per book. Alternatively, tokens can be kept to be redeemed against purchases at the Book fair which will be in school, later in March.
Bikeability Level 2
P7s who participated in their Bikeability level 2 training were presented with their badges and certificates today at assembly. The children braved all weather conditions from December through to January to complete their training. The children develop skills in cycling on the roads, developing awareness of other road users, signally and negotiating both right and left turn at junctions from major to minor and minor to major roads. It was great to see how everyones confidence grew over time. Stay safe all when out on your bikes and apply the skills and knowledge you have learned through your training. Well done.
Scots Poetry Assembly
At assembly today we heard the winners from each class reciting their Scots poem. The teachers swapped classes this morning to carry out to the final judging process. All the teachers said what great morning they had and really enjoyed meeting a new class and listening to all the poems. Everyone had tricky judging decisions to make as everyone had done so well.
A huge well done to everyone across the school for learning their poems this year and having a go. This isn’t something everyone enjoys or finds easy but we are proud of each and everyone of you for trying your very best.
Lockerbie 2024
Lockerbie Manor Day 3
Well, everyone is safely home from a fantastic residential trip to Lockerbie Manor. I think there will be a few tired staff and pupils this evening. Everyone had a fantastic time. I’m sure they will look forward to telling you all about it. Thank you to Miss Dooley, Mr Caldow, Mrs Campbell and mrs Ross for accompanying the children on the trip.
Have good long weekend everyone and we will see the children back in school on Thursday next week.
Assembly and Head Teacher’s Awards 9.2.24
It was great to have the children back in the hall today for assembly after a couple of missed weeks. In assembly today we spoke about work that many of the classes have undertaken this week about online safety. I was aware of the great work that had been going on in the classes and wanted to encourage the children to share their wider knowledge about staying safe online. It was very impressive how much the children knew and could share with each other about being safe online. They could tell me about safe passwords, blocking inappropriate content, not talking-to strangers online, not giving away personal details and appropriate dialogue in online chats. We did touch on age limits for games and online platforms such as Snap Chat and TikTok and parental checks on phones and devices. Well done to everyone who contributed to the discussion in assembly today.
Awards were back once again and it was great to see so many achievements form across the school. We have had lots of confident individuals reciting their Scots poems this week, being reliable and kind, putting in great concentration to work, showing good listening skills in the gym and being committed to leaning were all reasons for awards this week. Congratulations to everyone.
I will look forwards to next weeks assembly when we will hear from the class winners of the Scots poetry competition from P1-P6. Class judging takes place next Friday in school.
Lockerbie Manor Day 2
Checked in with Miss Dooley this morning and everyone managed some sleep! I have heard there were sausages for breakfast and everyone is wrapped up warm as like here in Dalbeattie the weather at Lockerbie is a bit on the colder side. Out for activities now. Will post pictures from today as I receive them.
A great evening visiting P7 and staff at Lockerbie Manor. All are doing well and having lots of fun. Great to hear from the children about all the new experiences that they have tried and targets they have achieved. I think they will certainly sleep well tonight.
Lockerbie Manor Day 1
Our P7s left Dalbeattie today for a residential trip to Lockerbie Manor. They set off by coach at 1:30 and have started their first activities. We will post and share photos as they are shared from the staff accompanying the children.
Technology Workshop
Primary 5s and P6/7 took part in a STEM workshop this week. The theme of the Worksop was based on driverless cars.The children used coding skills to move the cars around the gym hall.

P7 World War 2 Presentation
Classes and parents were treated to a fantastic performance by P7 today. They shared with us some of their learning through a short play about World War 2. Individual projects and Anderson shelter models we also on display to show case.
