Learning how to build a series circuit this afternoon. We started the day working hard in PE and carried on that way for the whole day.
4.11.24
Another busy Monday. We’ve been learning about where our spelling words originated from, starting our fractions learning in maths and learning ‘los colores’ in Spanish.
(PE will now be on a Tuesday morning instead of Monday afternoon.)
29.10.24
We’ve been busy learning about factors and multiples this week. We played games in teams to help us consolidate our learning.
04.10.24 We had a brilliant Teams Meet with local company, DRAX to learn all about electricity, renewable and non-renewable energy and how the Galloway Hydros work. We compared different types of energy by playing top trumps card games. Then we acted out how hydro power works and looked at the power stations on the map. We all did really well listening to new information, answering questions and taking part in the end of lesson quiz with mostly all correct answers! A great afternoon, well done everyone.
25.9.24 As part of Maths Week Scotland, we have been busy playing some mental maths strategy games. We took some of this learning outside to play ‘Fifteen’ and we also played ‘The Game of Nim’. Both games relied on using addition skills and some quick thinking!
20.09.24 – Today we enjoyed some time on the scooters. We practised gliding with different poses including one leg at our knees, one leg stretched out behind us and crouched down. We played follow the leader too. Well done everyone for being sensible, safe and having fun!
20.09.24Â – As it’s Fairtrade fortnight, we watched some video clips of Fairtrade farmers and then completed a paired reading task to research about Fairtrade products including coffee, chocolate, flowers, shea, sugar and bananas. The children then presented what they had found out to the class. I was really impressed with how well they worked together on this task.
19.9.24 – Today we had a visit from Queen of the South who presented us with 10 football strips in Finlay’s fantastic design which we will be able to use for our school football team. The class had to good questions to ask about football. Well done Finlay and thank you QOS.
18.9.24 – Working on our addition skills outside this week. We’ve also written some amazing descriptions of dragons and worked on accuracy in maths by finding the errors that Mrs Lumsden made when adding two numbers.
13.9.24 Some fun class photos on the trim trail to round off the week. Have a great weekend everyone!
13.9.24 Congratulations to our new class Eco Rep Bella and Pupil Council Reps Corey and Sam. Fantastic speeches prepared and delivered and we are sure you’ll all do great in your roles this year.Â
13.9.24 The children’s lovely golden Gustav Klimt inspired ‘Tree of Life’ paintings are now dry and on display outside our classroom.
12.9.24 Drama in our outdoor classroom. Lots of fun playing charades to warm up then group improvisation.
11.9.24 Learning to spell some commonly misspelled words:
11.9.24Â We’ve been busy in Literacy learning about different kinds of sentences (can anyone remember which ones we’ve learned about?) and writing descriptions. We ‘magpied’ some ideas from each other this week to use in our writing later. We also had a visit from Sumdog because the class are taking part in the national competition.
We’ve been busy doing some outdoor learning this week. Using the wooden discs to help us with 1 tenth more and 1 tenth less. Some of us then went on to looking at hundredths and thousandths.
For art this week we collaborated to create this oil pastel rainbow 🌈
We have been playing hockey in PE. We did some dribbling and push passing drills then played a few games.
In maths this week we have been learning and revising telling the time using analogue clocks. We used mini clocks and asked each other to set the time as well as playing time bingo.
Our first Monday back
We enjoyed starting our day with a bit of collaborative play this morning. Listening carefully to each other and communicating – some of our new ‘Meta-Skills’ that we’re thinking about. We’ve started our new class novel (can anyone remember the title and tell someone at home?), created a piece of writing, spoken about the Rights that are important to us in school and worked on our dribbling skills in hockey. Well done P6, a busy day!
Welcome to Primary 6! 🤩
Week One: It’s been great welcoming the children to Primary 6 this week. We’ve been thinking about what makes a quality class, writing our goals for the year, drawing self-portraits, creating word clouds in ICT using adjectives to describe ourselves and learning a new strategy team building game in PE. The children have enjoyed time to play some new class games during Fun31. Bella and Ellie are new to the school this year – welcome to Dalbeattie girls; we hope everyone has made you feel very welcome!
