Nearly there!
Firstly, on Friday AM, the whole school has the church service in our normal P.E. slot. Therefore, could all children come in uniform but bring P.E. clothes with them to change into – weather depending…
Secondly, it has been a fantastic, extremely quick term, and well done to all of the children for what they have achieved.
Additionally, thank you to all and have a very Merry Christmas et a Happy New Year when it arrives.
Merry Christmas!

Fantastic performance P4! Everyone who watched commented how fabulous they were. A lot of learning/work went into that performance and a big thank you Claire, Scottish music lead, for providing the songs and rhythm.

A reminder that the P4 Ram Tam show starts around 09:45 tomorrow if coming along.
The office staff will show you where to go when you show up.
Also, the Christmas shows are on Wednesday this week. One performance for parents at 13:30 and another at 18:30. If you’d like some tickets then you’ll need to get in touch pronto – £3.00 a ticket.
The children have worked really hard at these two performances and I’m so proud of them. Hard enough doing one show, never mind four in two days!
25.11.2024
Merry Christmas! It is that time of year when things get a tad hectic with shows/enterprises and what should be a normal day goes out the window…
Therefore, lots of information to share.
Firstly: reminder about our xmas show with the other two classes is on the 11th of December, and if you’d like a ticket, then please send in your money to be guaranteed them.
Secondly: our second xmas show is on Tuesday the 10th December where we will be performing to classes in the school and yourseves if you’d like to come along. It will only last around 15mins and we will be performing in the Heuchan Hall from 09:50 – 10:10. Let me know via email if you are coming, or just tell the kids.
Furthermore: we have a table at the high school Xmas fayre next Tuesday, to raise funds for our class, and some volunteers to help myself would be appreciated – i’ll put out a slip for this.
We are currently customising baubles to sell in bags, I’ll have hamper made up with a 100 square, £1 a ticket, and it would be greatly appreciated if you could cook/bake something with your child to bag and sell. Something simple like choc crispies in a nice wee bag. You do not need to if you do not wish and it’s just to maximise profits on the night.
Lastly, at present time, no homework this week.
Ho ho ho…

Children were being very creative yesterday and had the task of turning themselves into a ‘firework’ engineer. They had to design, create, analyse what worked, and what didn’t; then make changes.
They did amazingly well and then helped each other to solve design problems.
Additionally, they also created firework art with Mrs McClean.

Apart from Halloween, Diwali is another important festival, which starts tomorrow.
I apologise for the chalk on clothes too, but they created some amazing rangoli patterns.
29.10.2024
Playing some Halloween games to improve hand/eye coordination.
Also a sample of our music lesson today:

Welcome back…!
Quick reminder that P.E. is tomorrow as usual, Friday too, so come in kit with clothes to change into.
08.10.2024
Last week! 😊
Rugby tournament on Wednesday, so come dressed in kit and uniform to change into.
Sponsored walk Thursday morning, so come dressed for outdoors and bring a change of clothing if possible – certainly footwear to change into.
Friday last day!
I am going to say this now, as I will forget later on, but it has been a ‘fantastic’ first term of learning and long may it continue…
WELL DONE P4 and to all of you as well.
Hope you all manage to get a wee break too over the holidays.
Thursday 3rd October 2024
Wee reminder about telling the time. Half past quarter to/past and digital equivalent. Anything that reinforces time would be helpful.
Also had a lesson on identifying trees from leaves. This lesson used the meta-skill of critical thinking – analysing and making a decision.
I will be mentioning these skills – basically reinforcing skills which will stay with them for life – from time to time.
Wednesday 2nd October 2024
Art with Mrs McClean, where they created Belties!
Tuesday 1st October 2024
RAM TAM music started this week, think we have around 10 sessions, where the kids are learning the beat, and lyrics, to traditional Scots/Irish songs, whilst listening to the violin and tin flute.
Additionally, if anyone would like a mixed wee bag of onions, garlic and chillies, then send myself an email, and I’ll sort it out for next week. First come; first served…

Henri Matisse experts:
Thursday 26th September
Taste test challenge was between homegrown tomatoes and supermarket. Thankfully, homegrown won and it’s now 3-0 to the polly tunnel produce.
Children have been creative this week and made posters for bike week Scotland, these are dotted around the school, as well as number posters about themselves -incorporating math week Scotland!
Tuesday 24th September 2024
Should’ve done this on Sunday!
Focus is now on the four times table but practise any that you wish. Also, can you help the children engage with calendars please. What day is the 30th of September? How many days in January? How many days is it from the 12th to the 20th etc.
We will also be telling the time too; so keep engaging with clocks – analogue at the moment.
It is also bike to school week as well as math week Scotland – we will do activities on both.
Homework books back in on a Thursday too please.
Hope you all have an ‘fantastic’ week.
Friday 20th September 2024
Nine hole game and like noughts/crosses – no diagonal lines. Playing games like this as part of maths’ week Scotland, which is next week.
We will also be out on ours scooters again this afternoon and well done to all the children – they are having a blast! So am I…
Wednesday 18th September
Glorious weather and the children completed another taste test challenge, p4/5 also took part. They tasted two types of carrots – ones grown in the school allotment and ones from a well known supermarket.
Thankfully, the homegrown was a resounding winner!
Additionally, they also took part in a race to see which team could separate coriander seeds the quickest from the plant. This was also linked to child labour in some world countries.
Sunday 15th September 2024
Last week was great p4! The scooters were great fun on Friday and looking forward to another successful week. P.E. is as normal – Tuesday/Friday – and in numeracy we will be starting a block on telling time and reading calendars etc. Please practice telling the time with kids as it is tricky.
Quick reminder to check for the blue spelling homework jotters in their bags too, as we will need them tomorrow.
Welcome to P4. Feel free to email me on: gw13caldowjoseph@glow.sch.uk
P.E. this week will now be on a Thursday and Friday. Come to school in p.e. kit and bring uniform to change into.
Monday the 2nd September 2024
Morning and I hope all is well with everyone. Just a few things: P.E. will be back to normal and on a Tuesday/Friday morning. Come to school in kit and we will change afterwards.
Spelling homework this week, for next Monday, and keeping it simple. Practise their words and write five sentences in their books. Try to encourage them to ‘stretch’ their sentences – they will know what this means.
Basically, ‘the cat was black’ is a simple sentence and they need to add more descriptive words, verbs and connectives.
The large black cat was running to catch a bird because it was very hungry.
Week beginning 09/09/2024
Good morning and I hope everyone is well.
P.E. is as normal this week: Tuesday/Friday mornings.
Spelling words will come home for homework and there may be reading too, but will let you know.
Children have been great and here are a couple of photos from last week. The display is fantastic, created by Mrs McClean, and put together by a group of girls, with no help, last Friday.
We’ve also done a wee experiment with white bread, which is hibernating/bubbling away, to highlight the importance of washing hands.
As always, feel free to get in touch
Mr C
Yesterday we completed a little taste experiment, along with p4/5, regarding melons. One grown in the school polly-tunnel; same variety from a well known supermarket.
Thankfully, the homegrown melon won! Next week, a similar taste test will occur with carrots.
11.09.24
The real-life ‘Sumdog’ character visited today – they were excited!
Additionally, the children also had a ‘taster’ of looking/trying robots built from straw structures. We will be doing more of this once I have obtained the kit.
