18.12.24 – Christmas Sing-Along and Snowman Drive

This morning P3 visited P1 for a performance and sing-along of all of the songs we learned and performed at Dalbeattie Day Centre and Munchies Care Home. Afterwards, P3 led a very competitive Snowman Drive with the P1s! What fun!

12.12.24 – P3 Christmas Party

WOW P3 – What a great party we had today! Sequins, sparkles, glitter, tartan, bow ties, Christmas tops and accessories galore; you certainly nailed the outfit brief! As for the dancing – amazing! Definitely some strong contenders for Strictly, especially Mrs McConnell and Mrs Hall who joined in our fast paced Military Two Step. What a job we had crowing the Disco King and Queen (so much so, we picked 5!)

We hope you had as much fun as we did!

10.12.24 – Place Value Homework Ideas

We are learning to count backwards in ones from different numbers.

It would be really beneficial to practise this at home with your child for a short time when you are able.

You can count aloud from different starting numbers at home in various ways:
-in the car or while out walking, using the house numbers as a starting number;
-counting while throwing a ball, taking turns to say the next number;
-an adult says 3 numbers and the child says the next one;
-an adult says 1 number and the child says the next three.

They can also write the numbers that would come next if an adult is able to write a starting sequence, e.g. 25, 24, 23, ____, ____, _____ or 134, 133, 132, ____, ____, ____.

Ask your child what Maths Group they are in, then practise counting aloud or writing backwards number sequences within the number range for their group.
Circles – 0-1000
Squares – 0-200
Rectangles – 0-100
Triangles – 0-30

Focus on crossing from one set of tens/hundreds to the next, e.g. 23-16, 62-57, 174-166, 508-497 etc.

If your child finds it tricky, start with lower numbers and build up.

You can send any pictures or videos of their practise at home to Mrs Stephenson.

Thanks

9.12.24 – Christmas Party and PE kit Reminder

Our class party is in the afternoon on Thursday 12th Dec. Please come to school ready for the party. School clothes and PE kits are not required.

31.10.24 – Halloween

For our Daily Writing today the children wrote instructions to make a witches brew. They began by collaborating with each other to think of bossy verbs, ways of describing the amounts of each ingredient and the gruesome ingredients themselves. They then used everything they had discussed to write their own individual set of instructions. Lots of disgustingly brilliant instructions were written!

We have added a new writing target this term and the children are now working on sentence starters (openers) as well as still using connectives which was our previous target.

Well done to Alfie, Aria and Skylah who won our pumpkin drawing competition with some super designs and careful colouring.

10.10.24 – Term 1 Writing

This term the children have been introduced, along with ourselves, to a new way of teaching writing. We now write 4 times a week and we track our progress each day. The children have been amazing at adapting to a new routine and have made super progress. Our learning has been focused on using connectives in our writing and the children needed to use 2 connectives in each writing piece in order to be successful. I am thrilled to say that we have achieved our target in time for the holidays and we will be adding our next target when the children return. Well done P3!

10.10.24 – Term 1 Numeracy (Place Value)

This term we have been learning more about place value and applying previous knowledge to larger numbers or securing learning from P2. The children have enjoyed counting the base 10 materials, building numbers using the same materials and also being creative and collaborating with each other when outside with the outdoor learning objects. They have shown such amazing focus during our maths lessons and I look forward to carrying on with lots more maths work with them next term.

10.10.24 – Term 1 Spelling and ICT

P3 have worked really hard this term to practise their weekly spelling words in class. We have been encouraging them to take leadership of their own learning while in the Open Area and they have the choice of how they practise their spelling words throughout the week. Some of the children were really creative and used the Lego – such a great idea! They are learning to use the iPad to take a picture as evidence of their hard work; some of the pictures are below.

In ICT they are becoming more confident in logging on to the computer independently. They have learned how to open a word document, type up their spelling words, to change the font /size/colour and they now also know how to save their work into a folder.

A special mention to Wren who has sent us evidence of her practising her words at home using scrabble letters – what a super idea!

10.10.24 – Sponsored Walk

What a lovely walk we had this afternoon! Thank you to all pupils who brought in sponsor money today. Thank you also to Mrs Fortnum, Mrs Ross, Sports Leader Ewan and Liam’s mum for coming along with our class.

9.10.24 – PE/Sponsored Walk on 10.10.24

To save bringing lots of clothes tomorrow; can pupils please come to school in something that will be suitable for both PE and the sponsored walk. We will not get changed into school uniform after PE so this will not be required. Please wear trainers to school ready for PE and send in alternative footwear (boots or wellies) for the walk if needed.  Thank you.

20.9.24 – Request

Do you have any plastic tubs with lids, perhaps from a takeaway or microwave meal, that are in good clean condition?

If you have some similar to the picture below and they are just piling up in a cupboard, like mine were, could you please send 1 or 2 into school for us to use to keep resources like tens and units in.

Thank you

12.9.24 – Class Charter

Our class wanted a sporty theme for the Class Charter.

11.9.24 – Outdoor Learning

This term we are focusing on learning our doubles and near doubles in maths. Today we went outside and used the digit stones to create our doubles and near doubles. Some children challenged themselves to make 2 digit doubles – very impressive!

6.9.24 – Outdoor Learning

This week we enjoyed using our maths skills outside. We had to use our communication meta skill to listen carefully to different questions and then try to be the first person to find the correct answer on the spots that were laid out around the playground. Some friendly competition and lots of fun!

30.8.24 – Class Charter

Over the last week the children have participated in a number of activities to learn about their rights, as detailed in the UNCRC, and to decide what rights are important to them in our classroom this year. We have used all of the information from collaborative tasks to form our Class Charter and this forms the shared agreement of our rights and responsibilities while we are in P3 as both pupils and staff. I will share a picture of our Charter when it is finished but in the meantime I will add some pictures of the pupils working together on some of the tasks we have completed so far.
