P2/3 Mrs R McLean and Mrs Howie

19.12.24

Christmas party P.2’s Santa came to visit us today and gave us a chocolate bar. We played lots of games and made groovy moves on the dance floor.

17.12 24                                                                                                                              P.E with Mrs Gray- Christmas activities                                                                                                                                                                         16.12.24

13.12.24

Some of our Christmas art work is coming home today: our hand-printed glitter trees and our nativity Stained Glass Window pieces.  Both of these activities gave the children opportunities to develop a range of skills when working with mixed media, including printing and cutting and manipulating tissue and other paper.

12.12.14

It was great fun at the Primary 3 party.

5.12.24

In topic maths this week we have bene continuing with our practical work on measure, using our skills of collaboration, sense making and curiosity to carry out various challenges. P2 have been comparing a range of different non standard units to measure with while P3 have been working to together to measure longer lengths using metre sticks.

In Art, we have been using our creative skills when finishing our handprinted Christmas trees (great fun with glitter- after all, it is Christmas!) and making stained glass effect windows for another activity next week.

3.12.24

Collaborative writing

In p.2/3 today we went into groups to write a narrative story. We had to use our imaginations and make sure we had different openers and connectives. We used lots of meta-skills in the activity such as creativity,  communication, leadership and focusing. We enjoyed putting our ‘thinking caps’ on and working as a team. As a group we read out our stories to the rest of the class.

29.11.24

This week in Art, we have been developing our drawing skills to experiment with how to draw our faces. We had photos of our own faces as an aid, together with a lesson on how to proportion the parts of a face. We also used our skills in printing to use our hands to create handprinted trees, ready to decorate next week.

In topic maths, Primary 2 have been developing their collaborative and curiosity skills as we learn to measure  variety of small objects with non standard units such as paperclips and cubes. We have also ben experimenting with estimating our answers first. We have been using HOTS to question why we see  a pattern emerging in our answers for the longer and shorter items. Meanwhile P3 have been continuing their work with measuring in centimetres.

27.11.24

Matching cards to a season a quick choosing activity.

26.11.24  Our sense of smell -smelling pots.

This afternoon P.2/3 had to guess the smell in 4 cups. Some of the guesses were very accurate e.g cappuccino for coffee smell, lemonade for lemon smell and garlic bread for garlic smell. The vanilla essence was the hardest to guess but they all definitely thought it was a sweet smell.

25.11.24

P.E- Note there is no P.E tomorrow(Tuesday 26th) but Wednesday as normal.

Collaboration today to create a huge lego house.

We were working on Sumdog today. I’ve sent home usernames and passwords as they also have a QR code now for use on phones and i pads.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 21.11.24

We have also been making lots of noise this afternoon with our non-pitched percussion instruments.  We kept a beat to ‘Senses’ words e.g  Louis Braille,  Helen Keller

Parents Consultations – thank you for coming to meet last night. It was great to chat about all the children in the class. Also, a big thank you for filling in the post it notes about writing in the class. From what I am reading -all very positive.

A few pictures of the children receiving their book bug bags from the Scottish Book Trust. Apologies for the photography- not one picture shows everyone well- hence why 6 pictures being uploaded!

Sense of hearing

This week we have been learning about how our ears work, Helen Keller, Alexander Graham Bell and dogs for the hearing impaired. Today we made simple cup telephones to show how vibrations amplify sounds.

15.11.24

This week, we have been experimenting with colour mixing in ART, developing our creative and curiosity skills. In topic maths, we have been rounding off our work on 3D shape, using our collaborative and curiosity skills, before moving onto work on measure next week. In Fun 31, we have been having lots of fun learning the social skills of playing dominoes.

14.11.24 – some choosing activities

13.11.24  Outdoor learning

Today P.2/3 went outside and used their senses of sight, sound, hearing, touch and taste. They noted a couple of examples for each sense.

6.11.24

In P.2/3 we have been accessing an educational website called ‘Poisson Rouge’ that the school pays for by subscription. It really helps the pupils manipulate their mouse whilst learning at the same time.

                                                                                                                                                   30.10.24

Recently P.2/3 have been creating their own books at home and in their spare time at school and they read them out to the class. I feel they are using lots of meta-skills in this process- using their initiative, collaborating,  communicating and creating. Well done!

                                                                                                                                                        P2/3

We are painting on Friday 11th October in our Art lesson. Please can children bring old painting shirts to cover up their school uniform. It is photograph day too!

Thank you

Mrs Howie

Homework Presentations.

Today I had the pleasure of listening to the P2/3 class present their homework about houses and homes. The children created a variety of models and pictures to share their knowledge about their own homes or different types of houses. The children stooid up infront of the class and told everyone about their houses, models and pictures. The children also responded well to questions asked by their peers. There were also lots of lovely compliments given to each other about the hard work put into each piece of work.  Well done P2/3. 4.10.24

Over the last few weeks, we have been developing a range of skills in our art work. This week we completed part 2 of our cityscapes.  The pupils have enjoying using their meta-skill of creativity to very good effect. Below are some pictures from today’s activity, together with the wall displays of all our recent art work on the theme of House and Homes.

4.10.24

Primary 2 and 3 have taken part in some fun outdoor learning activities over two days this week, building on their knowledge and understanding of 2D shape. We have been playing a ‘buzzing Bee’ game to consolidate our knowledge of hexagons and their properties. We have been singing a pentagon song while we passed a ball and have been learning a new ‘Octagon ‘Stop’ rhyme. These also focussed on helping as memory prompts to recall the number of sides each of these shapes has. These activities were planned to take place during Maths Week Scotland but were delayed by one week due to rain! The Primary 3 pupils have also been experimenting with tiling to extend their knowledge while Primary 2 have demonstrated their curiosity skills in being keen to learn new fun songs and rhymes to help them remember these trickier 2D shape names.  We have all been using the meta skill of collaborating.

2.10.24

Houses in the Past

Today we have been comparing household items from the olden times to the present.  This hopefully demonstrated that household chores today are slightly easier than in the olden days. We watched a video where a Grandad and his grandchildren went back in time to an old kitchen with a range, an outside toilet and candles for light. I also brought in some old artefacts  for the pupils to guess what they were used for.

1.10.24

Yesterday P.2/3 were doing a variety of outdoor learning activities. the children enjoyed making imaginary pizzas, making tunes on sticks and doing a beetle drive.  There were lots of meta skills involved whilst doing these activities – collaboration, creativity, communication, focusing and curiosity.

ART tomorrow (27.9.24)

We shall be using chalk pastels. If anyone wants to bring an old t-shirt to put on top of uniform, please do.  We do have some painting shirts in school but pupils may prefer to have their own.

19.9.24

Writing                                                                                                                                         Rights Respecting School -article 28( right for education)

Myself and other colleagues have recently been on a writing course in Glasgow. This means that P.2/3 have been writing every day in class since Monday. At the moment we are focusing on using different sentence starters in our writing. e.g One day……… They went……….. After that………. In the end………… so its not so repetitive. I have been amazed at the results-  everyone has got it!

A couple of examples:

Outdoor learning 19.9.24

We had to run to get a numbered pebble and bring it back to our partner to work out the double and near doubles calculation.

Rights Respecting School Article 37(the right to  a safe place to live)

P.2/3 went for a walk today to see different kinds of houses.

We had a lovely, sunny walk and the pupils were so sensible and well behaved. Rights Respecting School Article 19( the right to be safe and looked after)

Today, we found out about how we could take part in a Community Fairtrade Quiz.  Mrs Howie, of all people (as eco co-ordinator!) forgot to  hand them out at home time. If anyone wants to take part over the weekend before bringing home the actual sheet, here is a look at the front and reverse of the quiz sheet. Once the sheet comes home, you can fill it in properly. there is until Friday 29th September to send them back into school. Sorry!

Over the last few weeks, we have been applying a range of skills in our art work, while using different types of media. The end result will be several different forms of art around the theme of House and Homes. Watch this space of more photos soon, together with our end wall display.

Hi everyone, welcome to P.2/3. I’m looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow for our first day of a new session. However, I have added a letter that I will be giving out tomorrow to everyone in the class. It gives class information. The main point that you will need for tomorrow is that there is P.E. Don’t worry if you forget to wear your P.E kit as we will not be doing anything too strenuous. Thank you

Mrs Mclean
