The packing process was in full swing today as staff prepare for the move to our new learning campus.
Today was the final day of school for pupils in our current school buildings before we make the move to our new learning campus. We had hoped to have a whole school picture taken outside our iconic bell tower but the weather unfortunately wasn’t in our favour today. We did however manage to have a whole school picture taken with pupils and staff present today in our hall. Thank you to Drew Geddes for coming along to take these historic and memorable pictures for us.
Today staff and pupils said goodbye and happy retirement to Thomas McMurtrie our school janitor. Thomas has been Janitor at Dalbeattie Primary school for 30 years. He has seen many pupils through the doors of Dalbeattie Primary School and has been a highly valued member of staff.
At assembly today, pupils and staff presented Thomas with a selection of gifts. Mrs Howie, staff and pupils had also all worked together to create a fantastic picture for Thomas to remind him of playtimes, pupils and his house team Screel. Mrs Duncan shared some fun memories of Thomas and his Janitorial skills.
Good luck Thomas and enjoy retirement.
Primary 5 pupils organised and ran a very successful Fairtrade Games Event. They had been learning about Fairtrade in class and wanted to continue to raise awareness throughout the school. They worked in teams to design and create their own game based around Fairtrade. Games included a Fairtrade Obstacle Race, Fairtrade Throw, Pin the Fairtrade product on the Fairtrade Mark while blindfolded, running games and a Fairtrade Quiz. The whole school were invited to play their games. For 50p, pupils were allocated a 15 minute slot to play all the games. Mrs Dyson and Primary 5 pupils would like to say a big thank you to all who supported our event. 160 people came to play our games. We even had family members join in the fun. Primary 5 pupils have decided to spend the £80 raised to buy Fairtrade footballs for use by all pupils within our school. The school has kindly agreed to match our amount raised so that double the number of balls can be bought. We look forward to introducing Fairtrade footballs into Dalbeattie Primary School.

Today Artie Trezise (Artie’s Tartan Tales) visited Dalbeattie Primary as part of the Folktober festival that is taking place in Dalbeattie this weekend. He entertained the children with some traditional Scottish songs, stories and humour. Thank you to Mr Henderson and the Dalbeattie Folk Group for organising this for the school.
On Friday 22nd of September all classes took part in our annual school sponsored walk – the final one from our current building. The sponsored walk was to raise funds to support classes with transport, trips or paying for visitors to come into school/classes. All funds raised will be shared between classes. On the day P4-7 had a brisk walk to the granite heart stone with only a slight drizzle of rain on the way back. P1-3 walked to the loch and back with great success and no rain. Thank you to all parents, family members and friends who were able to join us on the day.
