RNLI poster competition update…
Today is Kippford Lifeboat Open Day. The station is looking forward to welcoming people to Kippford RNLI on Saturday 6th July between 11am and 2pm. You’ll be able to visit the boathouse, enjoy tea and a cake and browse the shop.
The school poster entries are displayed on the station walls. The winner will be notified once the school holidays are over and will be invited along to a station tour, then, to receive their prize.
In the meantime, do pop along to the open day. Weather and operational commitments allowing, they hope to have Kirkcudbright RNLI Lifeboat Station, Workington Lifeboat, Nith Inshore Rescue and HM Coastguard Portling Search and Rescue there too.

RSAC Scottish Rally Launch
The children had the opportunity today to look round two of the rally cars that will be taking apart in the RSAC Scottish Rally when it comes to Dalbeattie on 20th July. The children got to sit in the cars and imagine what it might be like to drive or be co-driver/navigator. The emergency vehicle used at the rally was also available fort he children to look at. There were certainly lots of questions being asked, horns hooted and sirens tested.

Remember Future Museum tomorrow 3.15-6pm Tuesday
Come along and look at our exhibits to see what our young people thought of the plastic objects which were found on a recent beach clean. This has been an activity in which the whole school P1-P7 took part, working collaboratively together.
£1 entry is for juice and biscuits and a short quiz sheet. There will be a chance to vote for your favourite team name and also the team with the best imagination. There will be prizes for the winners and for three lucky entrants whose sheets are pulled out of the hat. Prizes will be given later in the week. Do pop in for a visit.
RNLI Fundraiser and Water Safety Talks Event
Thank you all for your wonderful support today. We do not yet know, exactly, the amount raised but we think it will be at least £40. We used 200 coins to write the number 200 and kept adding layers of coins until we had some quite high stacks. This fundraiser was for Kippford Lifeboat and also to mark the 200 year anniversary of the RNLI. Well done everyone. Thank you School Pupil Councillors for organising this and to Kippford RNLI for supplying the stickers. Thank you to local lifeboat volunteer Keith who came to give us water safety talks today. For the poster competition for Kippford RNLI, here are the details again:
2024 is the 200th anniversary of the existence of the RNLI. In recognition of this milestone event, Kippford Lifeboat Station will be running a competition for children to design a poster celebrating 200 years of saving lives at sea.
The competition will run until June. All completed entries must be received by Thursday 27th June. The competition is open to any child. There will be three age categories with prizes for first, second and third in each category as follows – 3-4 years, 5-7 years and 8-11 years.
All entries must be A4 size. RNLI and 200 must appear somewhere on the design. Any medium can be used, e.g. pen, pencil, crayon, paint, collage as desired. The child’s name, age, school attended and parental contact number must be clearly displayed on the rear of the poster. Completed entries can be handed into the RNLI shop in Kippford or Dalbeattie Learning Campus for the attention of Mrs Howie.
The posters will be judged by members of the lifeboat crew and winners announced in early July. It is hoped that prizes can be presented to the winning entrants at the Kippford Station Open Day on 6th July.
Citizenship and Celebrating Wider Achievement
It’s wonderful to see so many of you sharing your wider achievements in school with us. Please remember, to send in your child’s PASS booklet for assessment and to be considered for an award and/ or prize. They are a great way to have wider achievement recognised. Children with grey or yellow booklets will have partially completed booklets and will be considered for interim prizes. (Yellow and Grey booklets take 3 years to complete.) Please send the booklets into school no later than Monday 24th June. They will be returned to your young person afterwards to continue filling them in until complete. For anyone who has lost their booklet and is keen to fill it in, do let us know as we have a few spares. Current P2s and P3s were given grey booklets during their P2 year. Current P5s and P6s were given yellow booklets during their P5 year. Children in nursery were given brown ones and may now have completed them. Some children will still not have booklets as the newly launched booklets have been phased in following reintroduction after Covid. By next year, all children will have a booklet in process. RNLI Water Safety and 2p for 200 Fundraiser
Later in June, we shall be welcoming someone from the RNLI to talk to us about water safety. On the same day (Friday 21st June) we shall both mark the occasion and commemorate the 200th anniversary of the RNLI with a fundraiser, organised by our School Pupil Council. The challenge is to collect and bring any 2p coins you have at home or receive in change over the next few weeks. The school pupil council will help pupils to lay their donations onto an interesting design, chalked out in the playground on 21st June. So please start looking for the those 2p coins for our “2p for 200 Challenge.” Also, please remember on a connected theme, from another recent post about the poster competition for Kippford RNLI. Entries for this to be in by the Friday 28th June.
Beach Clean at Rockcliffe Success
Thank you all who turned up to take part in our voluntary beach clean at Rockcliffe today. The event was organised by the Rotakids Club in partnership with the Eco Group. Thank you Dalbeattie Community Initiative for helping supply the equipment and to Mr and Mrs Cathro, our Rotakids coordinators. It was lovely to see so many of our pupils and their families come along in addition to Mrs Duncan and Mrs Stores, HT of Colvend and Kirkgunzeon. We now have quite a large box of varied plastic waste which will form the inspirations for some creative work for our ‘Future Museum’ later this term.

Beach Clean this Sunday 21st April
This is a little reminder about the voluntary beach clean this Sunday 21st April 1pm-3pm at Rockcliffe. The event is organised by the Rotakids in partnership with the Eco Group. Thank you Dalbeattie Community Initiative for letting us borrow extra litter picking equipment. Any pupils attending should be accompanied by an adult. It is recommended that people park in the top car park and walk down to the beach because parking can be limited in the bay. No one needs to stay the entire event time. Folks can pop along for a short visit only and help us find some plastic. This will not only help the environment but will also help us in The Eco Group’s Future Museum idea, to be held later in the term, which we will tell you more about later.
Easter Service
Thank you to everyone that was able to join us in church today for our Easter Service. Unfortunately, there were some gremlins in the church sounds system but the children all coped brilliantly with this and sang the 3 songs we had been learning really well. Our P7 readers also shared the Easter story through their readings. Well done.
Thank you to the Reverend Wilson for sharing her Easter message with the children too.
