Assembly and HT Awards 4.10.24

Unfortunately we didn’t manage to have a Friday Focus group today but class teachers did discuss with their classes our school value of being included today. The children brought lots of lovely ideas to share at assembly. Some very thoughtful answers as well that really made us think and reflect.

Awards today were given as always for a variety of reasons. Some of these included demonstrating meta-skills, being a responsible member of the class, over coming worries about presenting to the class, putting in great effort across the term in all areas of the curriculum, embracing 3rd level maths and being a super role model. Well done to all our award winners.

A full assembly again today. PC Blacklock and her colleague PC McCormick visited us in assembly to remind the children about the importance of the emergency services and appropriate use 999 number for emergency purposes. It was great to see PC Blacklock in school today and she will be popping back into see P1 as part their topic this term.

We spoke today in Friday Focus about our 3rd Value Respected and continued this in assembly. Some confident individuals sharing what respected means in their classes.

 

Head Teacher’s awards for lots of different reasons. As always lots of hard work and great learning taking place across the classes. Being committed and contributing to class discussions, taking on challenges in writing, excellent work in maths. a great attitude to learning and giving 110% effort were just a few of the reasons for awards this week. Well done to all our award winners.

RNLI Kippford

Three of our pupils were joint equal winners in a recent poster competition to mark the 200 year anniversary of the RNLI. Part of their prize was a tour of the Lifeboat station at Kippford. well done Holly, Rosa and Isla.  Looks like you had great fun! A great big thank you goes to Laura, Gareth, Lynda and Marion at RNLI Kippford.

Fairtrade Activities

Today, we found out about how we could take part in activities to mark Fairtrade Fortnight.  Aidan and Meadow talked us through a powerpoint about two activities,  at assembly, this afternoon.

The first activity is the chance to bring in a donation (for the Fairtrade Foundation) in return for a chocolate crispie/Malteser cake  They will cost 50p each.  Money is to be brought in on Friday 20th September, The crispie cakes will be made and given out on Monday 23rd September. The Eco Group showed us some of the donations they already have for making  the chocolate treats. Thank you Dalbeattie Spar and Castle Douglas Tesco who have so far given us donations.

The second activity is about an optional Community  Fairtrade Quiz with prizes to be won.  Thank you Dalbeattie Spar, Londis, Co-op and Castle Douglas Tesco for agreeing to this. The pupils  should have brought a sheet home tonight- it is all explained on there. If anyone wants to take part over the weekend but has not yet brought home the actual sheet, attached are the front and reverse of the quiz sheet. Once the sheet comes home, you can fill it in properly.  There will be until Friday 29th September to send them back into school.  Thank you for your support. All these activities help us to retain our FairAchiever School Status.

Today at assembly we heard from Meadow and Aiden about the Fairtrade activities that the Eco group are going to be undertaking as part of Fairtrade fortnight. Mrs Howie will be sharing more detail in due course. Well done Meadow and Aiden for being confident individual to stand up and share this information

In Friday Focus today the group spoke with me about our school value of being kind. This continued into assembly where I asked the children to think about what being kind means at Dalbeattie Primary. We certainly do have kind children here at Dalbeattie Primary.

We also spoke about the lost property trolley in assembly and the amount of items on this. I have asked the children to try and be more responsible with their property and try to collect it and keep it safe.

Awards were give out today for a fantastic range of reasons. These included being committed to learning, being confident in PE and working collaboratively, working really hard in maths, building fluency in reading and for being a super role model. Well done to all our award winners.

Harvest Time!

It’s Harvest Time!

Tomorrow morning before school and at the end of the school day, some of our harvest will be set out for people to help themselves to. There are only a few carrots (not a good year) leeks, onions, beetroot, potatoes and lots of apples! Please bring your own bag and take what you can use. There will be a pot set out for donations plus some gloves and wipes. Any donations given will go towards the ongoing eco work in school. Thank you in anticipation for supporting this. Well done the Eco Committee on harvesting it all today!

Citizenship and Celebrating Wider Achievement

It’s wonderful to see so many of you sharing your wider achievements in school with us. Please remember, to send in your child’s PASS booklet for assessment and to be considered for an award and/ or prize.  They are a great way to have wider achievement recognised. Children with grey or yellow booklets will have partially completed booklets and will be considered for interim prizes. (Yellow and Grey booklets take 3 years to complete.) Please send the booklets into school no later than Monday 24th June. They will be returned to your young person afterwards to continue filling them in until complete. For anyone who has lost their booklet and is keen to fill it in, do let us know as we have a few spares. Current P2s and P3s were given grey booklets during their P2 year. Current P5s and P6s were given yellow booklets during their P5 year.  Children in nursery were given brown ones and may now have completed them. Some children will still not have  booklets as the newly launched booklets have been phased in following reintroduction after Covid. By next year, all children will have  a booklet in process.
