P1/2 have been very busy this week. We have had Sara in from RHET to show us how to make bread as part of our previous topic of Scottish food and traditions. We loved having this opportunity of learning to bake the bread, learning about the ingredients and even taking it home to eat. The children enjoyed having the smell of warm freshly baked bread in the classroom. We hope you were able to sample the bread your child brought home.
Here are today’s Award Winners. Also at Assembly, we celebrated the achievement of the Primary 7 Burns Club winners. We had recitations from Katie Mein and Joy McCall who were first and second places in the poetry section. Ruari Webster was in 3rd place. We also appreciated the art work from Willow Caldow, Kerri O Dornan and Myah Forster who came 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the art competition to depict a scene from Tam O Shanter. A group of ladies were also recognised for their achievement in coming third in a walking competition in which there were 400 entries. Well done to all!
Today in assembly, not only did we have more deserving Head Teacher’s Award Winners but we also celebrated the success of our Scots poetry finalists. In Primary 1-2, the runners up were Sophie Pennell, Evie McGougan, Cameron Hitchell, Aiden Edgar, Lucas Tattersfield, Katie Dickie, Jessica Boynton and Lucy Johnstone. The winners were Reuben Benson, Lucy Smith and Rory McCormick.In Primary 3-7, the runners up were Anaya Nerestan, Ailsa Ferguson, Fern Lundy, Elsie Gibbs-Brown, Daisy-May Gilmour, Ava Drummond, Jasmine Wixon, Liam Bourhill, Laith Atkinson Deacon, Fabio Murray-Sanchez, Thomas Jardine and Fraser Campbell. The winners were Lucy Bell, Sam Donnelly, Chloe Campbell, Jack Johnstone, Grace Hurley and Olive Lyons. The recent success at curling for Logan Carson was also highlighted. The Rev Fiona Wilson was also present.
This week, certificates and prizes were awarded by Mrs Duncan to another group of pupils who were recognised for a range of skills and achievements.

On Thursday 24th January, our gymnasts took part in after school competition.
Recently, many of our gymnasts, who have been working hard all year, attending after school gymnastics clubs, took part in a regional competition (see previous blog post) so it was great to see all of our gymnasts compete in a school competition to which family were invited to watch. There were prizes awarded for regional level, school competition level and special awards for those showing most improvement.
Our thanks go to Mrs Duncan, Mrs Bradbury and Abigail Simpson who have given so much of their time to develop our young people’s gymnastic skills. We are also grateful to Mrs Bradbury, Abigail and Mr Drennan for being judges for the completion held in school and to Davie Stitt for presenting the awards.
Primary 1 and 2 children have just had a fantastic Christmas party. They played traditional games such as ‘I Sent a Letter,’ ‘The Farmer’s in his Den,’ ‘Hokey Cokey,’ ‘Pass The Parcel,’ ‘Musical Statues’ and ‘Corners’ together with some dancing competitions. Before juice and crisps, there was a big surprise: Santa arrived to give out some little presents! This was quite a highlight for the boys and girls. Thank you Santa! They loved your visit.
On the last day of term we invited our parents and relatives to come along and play some literacy games and have a go at some activities we do to help us learn our sounds. We began by singing some songs and then we all had a fun time playing! Thank you to everyone for coming and we hope you had as much fun as we did!
P1F have had a busy term settling in to school and have been working very hard! Here’s a snapshot of what we have been getting up to including painting, interviewing Mrs Widdowson our janitor, playing with our friends, enjoying a story with our P7 reading buddies, learning some yoga moves, a visit from PC Blacklock and many more!
Today we had a new set of Head Teacher Award winners. Not only did they receive their certificates but, for the first time, the pupils were also presented with prizes: Head Teacher’s award pencils! The previous winners at our first assembly were also presented with some. The decision to give prizes has resulted from consultation with all the school children about ways they would like to improve how achievements are celebrated. Here are this week’s winners:
Also at our assembly this week, 12 Primary 7 pupils were presented with their badges for volunteering to be librarians. Our new library monitors give up their lunch times, on a rota basis, to keep the school library organised and tidy.
