P7 Volcano Science Experiments
Primary 7 have had great fun this week finishing off their topic “Extreme Earth” from Term 3 by finally getting to use the science experiments that they tried and tested last term to make their Volcano models erupt.
Below are some pictures of the children making their models before the holidays and finally erupting them this week!!
P7 Seafood in Schools Day
On Thursday 30th March P7 took part in three different workshops run by Seafood in Schools at Dalbeattie High School.
The children were given opportunities to taste different seafoods, to watch a cooking demonstration and to find out more about where our seafood comes from and how it is caught.
The children had a great day and many were surprised by how much they liked some of the seafoods they had never tasted before.
Thank you to Mrs Houston for organising this experience!
P6G and P6/7B Science Centre trip
On Friday the 24th of March we went to the Glasgow Science Centre as part of our topic. We had a great time learning about space, the stars and exploration. We also had a chance to visit the science stalls and carry out some experiments to do with energy, robots and the human body. Thank you to Mrs Aitchison, Mrs Armstrong and Mrs Bryson for helping us, and also thanks to Mr Maxwell for coming back and joining us too!

P5D Singing at Dalbeattie Day Centre
Great enthusiasm and a responsible attitude were shown by pupils in Primary 5D who performed to visitors at Dalbeattie Day Centre. The class have been working with musicians from Feis Rois to learn a variety of Scots songs. They have also learned to play rhythms on the taiko drums to accompany the song “Hey Donal”. Pupils performed a selection of their favourite songs as well as sharing their drumming skills. Mrs Dyson was delighted by the great attitude shown by all pupils when performing and in their conversations with the visitors afterwards. We would like to say thank you to the visitors of Dalbeattie Day Centre for being a wonderful audience, to the staff for the juice and biscuits afterwards, to the adults who accompanied us on the walk and also to Kate and Peter from Feis Rois who have worked so enthusiastically with us!
P7 Extreme Earth Art
Have a look at some of our superb art work from this term.
Our earth wall display – showing the location of volcanoes around the world.
We created these super twister pictures focusing on our tone, blending and shading skills.
We also created these “Great Wave” inspired Tsunami pictures.
We also developed our skills creating repeated patterns by creating these super Zentangle landscape pictures.
P7 Spanish Day
On Monday 20th March Primary 7 attended a Spanish Day at Dalbeattie High School as part of their transition programme. The day gave the children the opportunity to be introduced to Spanish and take part in lots of fun activities.
These activities included Zumba, Tapas making, learning the language of the fan and a treasure hunt around the school learning the names of the subjects in Spanish.
The children had an absolutely fantastic day and were really motivated and engaged in all of the activities.
A huge thank you to all of the High School staff involved in planning and organising this event. It was a superb day!
P5D Artwork inspired by Andy Goldsworthy
We have been learning about the artist Andy Goldsworthy and have been amazed at some of the sculptures he created. We especially loved his artwork using ice, snow and leaves. We were inspired by his work and were keen to create our own nature artwork. Mrs Dyson was very pleased with how well we worked with others to create our art and how confidently we spoke about our creations.
