The butterflies that we have looked after since they were tiny caterpillars were big enough to be released into the wild today.
We have watched them grow from tiny caterpillars, through their chrysalis stage and finally emerging as Painted Lady butterflies.
Today we took them to our playing field and watched as some immediately flew away and some stayed for a while to say goodbye.
We are delighted to share some exciting news with you from here at Dalbeattie Primary School. Riley from P4/5 has been awarded a special merit in the Category C Primary 4 -7 section of this competition. The competition is in its 14th year and this year they received over 7,700 entries from all over Scotland so being amongst the winners is a major achievement. We are delighted that Riley is receiving this award. A huge thanks must also go to Mrs McLeman our specialist art teacher for selecting Riley’s piece of art work to enter in the competition along with several others form the class and a group composition from the P5 class.
Riley’s art work along with all other winning entries from each category will be framed and on display at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art 0-Modern ONE, from 10th June -24th September. The exhibition will then go on tour to Eastwood Park Theatre Gallery, Giffnock and Gracefield Arts centre in Dumfries until Spring 2018.
Last term P6,P6/7 and P7 classes all took part in a design competition run by Smoking Matters. The pupils were to design a flag that could be used to encourage people to stop smoking and help Scotland to become a smoke free nation by 2020. Jenny from P7 was awarded 2nd place in the competition. Well done Jenny a fantastic flag design.
Primary 7 have had great fun this week finishing off their topic “Extreme Earth” from Term 3 by finally getting to use the science experiments that they tried and tested last term to make their Volcano models erupt.
Below are some pictures of the children making their models before the holidays and finally erupting them this week!!
On Thursday 30th March P7 took part in three different workshops run by Seafood in Schools at Dalbeattie High School.
The children were given opportunities to taste different seafoods, to watch a cooking demonstration and to find out more about where our seafood comes from and how it is caught.
The children had a great day and many were surprised by how much they liked some of the seafoods they had never tasted before.
Thank you to Mrs Houston for organising this experience!
On Friday the 24th of March we went to the Glasgow Science Centre as part of our topic. We had a great time learning about space, the stars and exploration. We also had a chance to visit the science stalls and carry out some experiments to do with energy, robots and the human body. Thank you to Mrs Aitchison, Mrs Armstrong and Mrs Bryson for helping us, and also thanks to Mr Maxwell for coming back and joining us too!
Have a look at some of our photographs!
