Mrs Dyson has introduced the Micro:bits to Primary 5 pupils and has been impressed with how quickly the class have learned to create code and download them to the micro:bit. After creating their flashing heart badge, pupils experimented with creating their own designs, which included spelling out names and flashing initials.
During the first week of term, Primary 5 looked at the work of Dr Seuss and had fun drawing their own Cat in a Hat and creating their own Seuss inspired characters and cityscapes. Mrs Dyson likes how bright and cheerful the display is outside our classroom.
Primary 5 pupils have been developing their teamwork skills during their Outdoor Learning sessions. Mrs Dyson was pleased to hear so much positive language being used as pupils supported each other during completion of each challenge – Roller Ball, Amazing Maze and our Photography Challenge!
Primary 5 learned about the artist Andy Goldsworthy and then worked in groups to create their own Eco Artwork. They also played team games outside to develop their skills in using the eight compass points and their knowledge of place value. Great teamwork everyone!
Primary 5 (group 2) had a fantastic time at Carlingwark Loch with a full day of Watersports – sailing, kayaking and canoeing! Pupils demonstrated perseverance, resilience and great teamwork. Mrs Dyson was proud of all their efforts.
Primary 5 learned more about the work of the SSPCA and their role in protecting Scottish Wildlife. We loved the interactive activities. We applied our coding skills to animate our robotic Oscar the Owl and tested our knowledge in the team board game. Thank you to the SSPCA for a very informative visit!
Primary 5 and Primary 5/6 worked hard with musicians from Feis Rois to learn tunes on the tin whistle. They celebrated their learning by inviting family members and other classes to a special tin whistle concert. Well done everyone!
Well done to our Code Clubbers who applied their coding skills when exploring the BBC Micro:bit! Mrs Dyson loved the creativity demonstrated when Code Clubbers were creating their own programs.
Primary 5 had a fantastic time developing their Scooter Skills. A big thank you to Katie from Ibike for providing this opportunity.
Mrs Dyson was delighted to welcome back Mrs van Zwanenberg to speak to Dalbeattie Primary pupils about Fairtrade and to work with Primary 5 pupils in an interactive workshop. By studying a variety of Fairtrade products and labels, pupils became more aware of Fairtrade ingredients and their country of origin. Pupils sequenced the journey from cocoa bean to bar and discussed the issues facing the cocoa farmers. During Fairtrade Fortnight, Primary 5 pupils continued to develop their knowledge and understanding of Fairtrade and how it helps communities. Members of our class helped run the recent Fairtrade Break whilst many others made a donation to the Fairtrade Foundation through supporting this event.
