Sea Cadets Annual Trophy Presentation
On Tuesday 15th of November I attended the Dalbeattie Sea Cadets trophy presentation evening. An update on the units progress over the year was given by Mrs Millar. Commanding Officer Lt(SCC) E. McVinnie RNR then provided an update on progress and achievements of the cadets. Badges and certificates were presented to cadets as well as trophies for achievements. Well done to Logan Bond for achieving the award of best Junior Cadet and to Andrew Millar who received the Endeavour Award for having a go and trying everything so far in cadets and never giving up.
Remembrance Service
Dalbeattie Primary School was represented at the Remembrance Service in church today by five of our house captains accompanied by Mrs Duncan. The children and Mrs Duncan along with many other local organisations and members of the public then attended a service in Colliston Park to lay poppy wreaths at the war memorial in memory of those who have served and those who continue to serve in our armed forces around the world today.
Pitch, Pulse and Magic
P4,P4/5 and P5 had their first visit today from two professional musicians as part of the Live Music Now project that the school are lucky enough to be involved in this session. Rachel and Holly visited the school and performed for the children on their trumpet and tuba. The children were told about the history of each instrument and they participated in some simple rhythm work to develop pupil awareness of the concept of pulse. The ladies demonstrated different playing techniques with each instrument and how sounds can be changed. Through the pieces of music that were played, the children also found out about different styles of music and musical themes. The children were particularly good at identifying popular tunes such as Mission Impossible, Star Wars and Coronation Street. We are looking forward to welcoming 4 more musicians to school later this session as part of the project.
Primary 3 Woodland Visits
This term Primary 3 have been learning about Woodlands. They have made the most of the lovely Autumn weather and visited our Forest Classroom on three different occasions. During their trips to the Forest Classroom the children have been involved in a number of outdoor learning experiences. Thank you to parents who volunteered to join the class on some of these trips.
