Assembly and HT Awards

A busy assembly today. The children were introduced to the SHANARRI characters that were created earlier this term. It has taken a bit of time to get the children’s design turned into graphics but with the help of former pupil Molly Boynton we have these completed. Thank you Molly for doing these for us. We think they are amazing.

These characters will be used throughout the school and classes as part of wellbeing and to develop confidence in talking about all the wellbeing indicators.

SHANARRI character designs that were selected for across the whole school. Well done to all the creators.

Please see the picture below in the attached pdf.

SHANARRI Dalbeattie Primary and Nursery

Last week in assembly I reminded the children about bringing their water bottles to school and having sun hats and sunscreen for the warmer sunny days. The children have really tried hard with this and I have seen some fab sun hats in the playground this week. Linking in with this, as part of their class learning about the body this term P3 have created sun safety posters. They had initially been going to share with P1 but today they presented these at assembly to the whole school. The children had scripted what they wanted to say and presented their posters about sun safety messages with confidence. Well done everyone Mrs Stephenson was very proud of you all.

Lots of Head Teacher’s awards given out today. The school values were very evident today with lots of awards for commitment and kindness. Making good choices was also something that featured highly today with people really thinking about things before acting or carrying things through. Some good choices made around playground behaviour and helping others. Great results in numeracy and effort across the year in writing were also reasons for awards today. Mrs Grey has noted some talent in football during  PE this week too. Well done to all our award winners this week.

Nursery – P1 Transition Carousel

A few pictures from our first Nursery P1-Transition carousel on Tuesday 14th May. Our current P1s welcomed the nursery boys and girls through to the early level setting to participate in a range of 3 activities too help them become familiar with the setting before they join us in August. Our P6 buddies did a fantastic job too supporting the nursery pupils throughout each activity. Fantastic role models.

P7 Transition Afternoon

P7 pupils visited Dalbeattie High School for lunch and to participate in some transition activities today.  The children got to sample the secondary menu and gave lots of 5/5 scores for this when asked by Mr McGougan at the end of the afternoon. The children participated in a scavenger hunt around the school looking for different clues about different curricular areas and then had to solve an anagram about moving to Dalbeattie High School. They also visited Science and H.E to participate in some creative and practical activities. Not sure how many of the crazy creatures created in H.E would make it home or if they children might have eaten them before getting home.  Mrs Blackburn has some pictures of the creations that will be shared in due course. Overall a positive day with lots of confident individuals getting ready for the next step in their education journey.

Thank you to Mr McGougan and all staff from Dalbeattie High school for organising and facilitating this afternoon.

Assembly and Head Teacher’s Awards 10.5.24

Today in assembly Mrs Duncan shared three songs that classes will be learning to sing for the end of term assembly in June. The songs are about friendships, journeys and summertime.

Awards were also given out today for a variety of reasons. P1/2 received a class award for their fantastic writing this week about the trip to the beach last week. P4/5 received a class award for Theo Tartan Tour performance with Feis Ros and P4 on Wednesday. Other reason for awards today include learning 2 times tables, being more organised and focused with learning, fantastic team work as part of an inventors challenge and  showing commitment and determination to achieving and improving learning. Great achievements everyone.👏👍

We also had some of our nursery children join us for assembly. They are getting ready for their transition to P1 and being part of assembly on a Friday is part of this process. Well done everyone.

Another fantastic week of football from both our teams. Four wins for each team. Great team work, lots of sporting attitudes and supporting each other throughout the evening. Couldn’t be prouder of these two teams tonight.

Thank you to our parent council for providing a fantastic tuck shop. Very popular with everyone. A warm cuppa went down well as temperatures dropped.
