Glenbarr Primary School’s Burns Lunch

Glenbarr Primary School welcomed families and friends to a Burns lunch on Tuesday, 30th January. The children had made tartan-inspired place mats, non-alcoholic Cranachan, and shortbread for their guests. The pupils entertained their visitors with poems, songs and tunes using ocarinas, recorders and bells. A good time was had by all!

Rockfield P1, ELCC and Sgoil-Araich Early Level Family Disco

The nursery parent group planned and hosted their first ever disco for the children who are at the Early level. It was extremely well attended by the children and their families and it was a wonderful success.  Local DJ, George Noble, kept the dancing going with his wonderful selection of music.  A huge number of P6 children volunteered to be buddies and led the dancing, helped serve juice and a biscuit and were fantastic at tidying up at the end.  Overall there was great excitement and the children would now like a disco every week!

Drumlemble Primary – Burns Poetry Competition

Drumlemble Primary held a Poetry Competition in honor of Robert Burns day.   The competition proved to be a fabulous event, with the children all trying extremely hard to master the Scots language whilst reciting a Scottish poem!  Parents and teachers had the difficult task of choosing winners.   The children were judged by the teachers on eye contact, diction, expression, volume and recital.   The event was completed with some Scottish dancing which the parents were invited to join in and a rendition of Auld Lang Sang

Burns Bash

To celebrate Robert Burns Day, pupils from Primary 3 and Primary 3/4 held a Burns Bash in their Upstairs Open Area. This consisted of a Baking stall, Bric-a-brac and a café where children enjoyed shortbread and juice.

Chanter music and highland dancing was enjoyed by the visiting classes while they sat in the café.

Strictly Rockfield!

Primary 6 and Primary 7 have been learning a whole range of Scottish ceilidh dances this term. The culmination of this work was twofold, a wonderful ceilidh last night and then this morning a whole school Strictly dancing competition, complete with judges! Both events were wonderful!

Christmas is Forever!

A huge well done to all the pupils at Salen primary who performed their James Bond themed Christmas play, “Christmas is Forever” to a packed school hall. After several weeks of rehearsals the children sang, danced and acted their socks off in both our matinee and evening performances. The pupils were joined by the children in our Pre-school who performed “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer” and also our Sgoil-àraich with a lovely rendition of “Rinn Sinn Bodach Sneachd an-diugh”.

Christmas Fayre Success

Congratulations to Salen Primary for organising a fantastic festive fayre. The pupils worked tirelessly all afternoon to ensure the fayre ran smoothly. With handmade ornaments, cakes, teas and coffees, bric-a-brac and books for sale we managed to raise a whopping £800 on Friday 15th of December. Thank you to all who donated items for our bric-a-brac stall, baking and raffle items

‘Festive Fun at Strath of Appin Primary’

A packed village hall last Thursday evening enjoyed a wonderful performance of ‘Cinders’ by Strath of Appin Primary School pupils and nursery children. In just over two weeks the pupils pulled out all the stops to learn their lines, song words and dance routines which got everyone in the Festival mood.

Christmas Fair

A Wonderful festive Joint partnership with the communities and schools of Minard and Furnace on Saturday at the Christmas Fair. The weather outside was cold, cold, cold but the locals and pupils turned out amid the festive snow and ice to support the school. The Children and Staff put on an amazing range of Christmas Gifts along with local stall holders who regularly support the school and its enterprises. The pupils were enthusiastic fund raisers especially on the tombola and even Elsa turned up for the raffle!

Southend Primary School Christmas Concert

Pupils at Southend Primary School hosted their annual Christmas Concert on Thursday 14th December. Children performed a number of acts including two French songs, ‘Twinkle Twinkle’ and ‘Jingle Bells’ on their Ocarinas, a well performed ‘Little Baby King’ Nativity, and more. The concert was supported by families, friends, and the local community and we would like to thank everyone who attended. Your support is greatly appreciated.

P5 Puppet Company’

P5 pupils at Rhu Primary have spent this term reading and examining scripts. They have looked at the different features of play scripts and then used this knowledge to plan and write their own short puppet show scripts in co-operative learning groups. They chose the Rhu Primary ‘school bees’ as their morals behind their stories, such as ‘Be Hardworking’, ‘Be Honest’ and ‘Be Responsible’.

Ardencaple Active Schools Cup Win for Hermitage Primary Football Team – Sep 2017

On Friday the 29th of September, the Hermitage Primary Football team were invited to take part in the annual Adrencaple Active Schools Cup. Competing against 5 other schools in very poor weather conditions the team were fantastic! They scored 23 goals in total across all of their games and only conceded a single goal.

As part of Maths Week pupils at Strath of Appin Primary worked together in their clans to solve a daily maths-themed challenge. The challenges were varied and drew on a range of mathematical skills as well as encouraging good communication skills and effective teamwork.

Digital Leaders at Dunoon Primary showcase “Our Children Their Future App at SLF

The last two days have been so exciting for Dunoon Primary Digital Leaders. They attended the Scottish Learning Festival and were based at Argyll & Bute Councils Stand.
The children showcased their mobile app called ‘Our Children Their Future’ which provides information about the local authority Education Service Vision and Strategy. The app was created by Digital Leaders with support from Mr Gary Clark.

At Southend Primary we have been learning to improve our mental agility recall. This special week was a chance for children and teachers to showcase the creative and innovative ways of making maths count.
We used Numicon to help us learn our times tables and to create number bonds and stories.

Maths Week Challenge at Lochgoilhead

Lochgoilhead Primary School participated in Scotland’s Maths Week Challenge with some exciting enquiry based learning. As soon as the pupils arrived on Monday morning, they attended a specially arranged assembly where they were all invited to help solve a problem. The large grass area surrounding the school was too long and needed to be ready by Friday for a sports event. With the usual gardening maintenance team not able to visit the school until the following week, the children were put into mixed age groups to try and come up with possible solutions.
