Primary 4 9.12.19

Hello everyone

It is the start of our second last week of term and we are now very busy in the run up to Christmas. Today we are going to watch the P1 nativity dress rehearsal and tomorrow we will watch the P2/3 nativity dress rehearsal. Wednesday is our Christmas party. It will take place all afternoon and children can bring party clothes to school to change into or they can go home for lunch and come back dressed for the afternoon.

In RME we have been learning about the Christmas story. The children learned about King Herod’s role in the story and the importance of this. Through drama the children were able to act as different characters in the nativity story. They could also ask the different characters questions in order to learn more about the nativity story.

In numeracy the children have worked hard to begin learning the 6, 7, 8 and 9 times tables and their related division facts this term. This week we will begin to work on multiplying larger numbers before revising all that we have learned next week. After the Christmas holidays we will begin to look at fractions in numeracy.

One of our PE days has changed. Indoor PE with Mrs Ferguson will now be on a Wednesday. The other session of PE will continue to take place on Tuesdays. The children have also begun to have Art lessons with Ms Fox on a Wednesday.

Homework was handed out last week for the final time this term. It is due in next Monday 16th December. Starred activities must be completed and the rest are optional.

Thank you for your support. Have a lovely week.

Primary 6 6.12.19

Primary 6 have had an exciting week beginning our RME topic on Advent.  We went to the church where we took part in activities called Bubblegum and Fluff.  We learned about the true meaning of Christmas and made lovely tiles with Christmas symbols on them.  They will be coming home today.

In topic we learned about the sinking of the Titanic and took notes to create a timeline of events.

In science we have been looking at renewable energy and have started researching the different types and their benefits to the environment.

In Numeracy we have been working on multiplication.  Some of us would really benefit from revising our tables to enable us to complete tricky calculations more accurately.

In Maths we have been calculating the perimeter of 2D shapes.

We have continued to work on persuasive language this week are have planned a letter to tell Santa how ‘good’ we have been.

Next week we have our Christmas party on Monday.  Remember that children can bring party clothes to school to change into or go home for lunch and change there.

Outdoor PE moves back to Thursday next week.

Primary 5 14.12.18

Primary 5 have been in the Christmas spirit this week.  We had a fantastic time at our party, we all looked amazing in our party outfits and enjoyed dancing and playing party games.  We also got to watch the infants perform their Nativity plays, which were fantastic.

We are busy writing Christmas adventures using all the writing skills we have learned this term.  We have definately improved in using our core targets and description.

In Maths we completed our work on 3 shapes by making 3D shapes with K Nex. This was a real challenge but we were very creative and managed to make 6 different 3D shapes.

In French we learned vocabulary related to Christmas and made pictures to illustrate our new vocabulary.

We are looking forward to our last week next week where we will have a talent show and lots of other Christmas related tasks to complete.

Primary 5 7.12.18

Primary 5 have been getting into the Christmas spirit this week.  On Monday we watched a pantomime called Beauty and the Beast.  It was very entertaining and everyone loved it.

In RME we revised the Christmas story and wrote news reports which we performed to the class.

In Maths we have been learning about the properties of 3D objects and have made cubes, cones and cuboids from nets.  Some of us turned these into Christmas decorations which are on our class Christmas tree.

We have continued learning about endangered animals in Science and this week we were learning about Invasive Species.  We discussed red squirrels and learned about conservation projects to try to help save them from extinction.

Next week we have our Christmas party on Tuesday, we have been learning some traditional dances and games in preparation at PE.

Have a lovely week

Primary 4 6.12.18

Hello everyone

Primary 4 have had an exciting week. On Monday we saw the panto “Beauty and the Beast”. The children loved joining in with the show! On Tuesday many children ate their Christmas lunch – it looked delicious!

This week in science we have been learning about Inheritance. We have been discovering that many of the traits we have are inherited from our parents including whether we have attached or detached earlobes or if we can roll our tongue! We have also been learning about how some of our behaviours are learned – like riding a bike or doing a cartwheel. Today the children used coins to create their own baby monsters with traits from their monster parents. Heads meant the mother monsters trait and tails meant the father monster!

Our Indoor PE day has changed to a Wednesday. The children enjoyed playing different catching games and also learning Scottish country dances which they will perform at their Christmas party next week.

The P4 Christmas Party is next Wednesday afternoon. The children can bring their party clothes to school with them to get changed into after lunch. Alternatively you may pick your child up at 12:30 then they can go home for lunch to get changed. We can’t wait! 🙂

This will be the last week of spelling and maths homework this term. Both will resume in the new year. Each group will finish their reading books by the end of next week and all books should be returned to school by Monday 17th December at the latest if possible.

Reminders –
Spelling due Friday
Reading pages due Monday
PE days – Tuesday and Wednesday
P4 Christmas Party – Wednesday 12th December @ 1:30.

Thank you for your support. Have a lovely weekend.

We are looking forward to welcoming them into our class.

Homework was issued yesterday. This is due to be handed in on Thursday 13th December. Remember to sign off any activities and put all drawing/writing into the “share it” jotters.

Both classes will be receiving P.E from our P.E specialist on Wednesday mornings so please remember to bring in P.E kits and water bottles. The children will also receive Music with Mr Shanks on a Friday.

Today is the Christmas lunch which we are looking forward to! Yesterday we watched the panto which was fabulous and the kids loved it! Our Christmas Party is Monday 17th December (afternoon) Children can bring party clothes to change into after lunch.

Merry Christmas to everyone!

We have had a very ‘Christmassy’ week, with our party on Friday getting us into the spirit and then the Pantomime on Tuesday continuing the Christmas traditions. The pantomime was excellent and the children thoroughly enjoyed it and were very well mannered and behaved throughout. Well done P4!

This week saw the last of our input from the NYCOS choir. Karen has been teaching us how to read music, keep a beat and recognise pitches and notes in music. We learned lots of fun singing games and rhymes along the way and we wish her the very best.

Thank you to all of the children and parents for their kindness and gifts given to me. I am overwhelmed by your generosity.  I wish you all a very merry Christmas and hope Santa brings you everything you wish for.

Well done to all of the boys and girls this year for your hard work and efforts.

Here is a little flash back to our year so far:

Enjoy the holidays everyone! See you all in the New Year ready for an exciting second half of the year with lots of new learning. 🙂

Thank you to parents for their continued support throughout this year.
