Lockerbie Manor – Thursday

Hello from Lockerbie Manor!

Yesterdays update was posted on the Residential News page in case anyone missed it. Today the children have had a very busy day with every group completing another mixture of activities. The obstacle course has been a huge hit so far (warning: a lot of mud was involved!). We then had a great time at the disco this evening and are looking forward to the rest of our activities tomorrow before heading home.

Thank you primary 5 for your questions. We enjoyed answering them after our dinner:

  1. Are you all having fun? – This was a loud yes from everyone!
  2. Did anyone scream when you were rock climbing? -“A little bit when I was flying in the air!” – Isla Barrie
  3. Did everyone sleep ok? – Mixed response! Some said they had a great sleep but not all.
  4. What has the food been like? – Everyone has enjoyed the food with many using the word ‘amazing’.
  5. What do you think has been the best activity? – The most popular answer was the obstacle course because it was really fun getting muddy! Some also said abseiling was the best.
  6. Did you get soaking wet and mucky? – Another definite yes especially on the obstacle course!

Other comments from the children:

  • “On the obstacle course when you fell in and got up you were covered in mud!!” – Danyl
  • “The rock climbing was quite hard” – Ally
  • “For the rock climbing it was really cold and sore for my fingers but fun!” – Matthew
  • “The biking was really good!” – Brooke
  • “Finding the letter R on orienteering was the hardest” – Cayden
  • “The abseiling was scary but fun!” – Mirryn

Primary 5

Hello,

In primary 5 this week some of us went to Lockerbie Manor and some stayed in school.

if you want to read about the Lockerbie Manor adventures please click on the Residential News tab above.

The children who stayed in school have been doing exciting activities as well. On Wednesday we looked at Coats of Arms and how they are created. The children are now designing their own Coat of Arms and putting on things that are specific to them. We will be continuing with this activity today where we will be painting them.

Mr Shanks brought the virtual reality equipment along and the children got to experience a range of adventures – we went underwater and saw the Great Barrier Reef, we visited the Mackie ice-cream factory, we travelled to Edinburgh castle, we zoomed up into space and we visited ancient Egypt. Tyler said-“It was really fun to see all the different places.”

In art with Ms Fox the children made monsters. Oliver said “It was very, very fun and cool”

Today the children are going to create Scottish and English soldiers to guard the P5 classroom. When the other children return hopefully they will not be frightened!

They will also have PE with Mrs Ferguson where they will be getting all the equipment out and have a fun obstacle course.

We would like to ask the Lockerbie Manor people some questions-

Are you all having fun?- Ammar

Did anyone scream when you were rock climbing?- Lina

Did everyone sleep ok?- Katie

What do you think has been the best activity? – Elle

What has the food been like? – Tyler

Did you get soaking wet and mucky?- Aaron

We are looking forward to you answering our questions. We will check in again tomorrow.

Hope you have fun

Lendrickmuir Day 2

Hello from P5.

Last night we played a murder mystery. The teachers and leaders were the suspects and we had to talk to them to figure out who killed Lord Mowbray.  It was fun a bit scary. Miss Millar was the murderer and we didn’t suspect that.

Today we have done so many activities. We walked to Gorge, built fires in bushcraft, climbed the low ropes, climbed a huge tree, played disk golf with frisbees and climbed on the climbing walls.

Tonight we are looking forward to playing on the inflatables.

I enjoyed walking to the gorge it was really cool that it has been there since the ice age.  Anderson

I loved tree climbing. I was the quickest to get to the top.  Bendi

I liked bouldering because I got into partners that I didn’t know very well and got to know people and it was very challenging. Alyssa

My favourite was bushcraft because I got to light a fire and I didn’t know how to do that before.  Lucas

We have had a lovely time so far and look forward to more activities tomorrow morning before returning home.                                                                    See you tomorrow.

Lendrickmuir Day 1

Hello everyone. Primary 5 have arrived safely in Lendrickmuir and have enjoyed our first day.

We went on a walk at the gorge. The water was going really fast and there was a massive waterfall.  Liam.

I went to the forest to do bushcraft which is making a fire and we heated up water to make juice.  Jack

We did archery it was really fun.  I did quite well. Anya

We played disc golf in the barn.  We had to throw frisbees into a basket.  Melissa

In the afternoon we did some problem solving in the forest.  It was really hard but we worked together and managed to solve quite a few.  Our favourite was trying to get everyone through a giant spiders web.

We we are all settled into our rooms and have enjoyed our lunch and dinner.

More information and photos to follow tomorrow.
