Primary 3 News

This week we are looking at multiplication and we are focusing on the 2x table. Your child has been asked to design a poster at home showing groups of 2 in different ways. They can either take photos or draw the different groups and use language such as:

3 groups of 2=6

3 lots of 2 = 6

3X2=6

3 multiplied by 2=6

They can use items from their bedroom such as lego, puzzle pieces, figures etc.

This is due on Friday for display.

Phonics and reading have also been set as normal.

Congratulations to Joshua, Katie, Arthur and Eva who got through to our Scottish Poetry Assembly on Friday. All performed their poems brilliantly and our overall winners were Joshua and Arthur.

Don’t forget about the Big Homework! We can’t wait to see the castle designs after half term on the 14th February.

Next week is our Parent Consultations and you can book these online. We look forward to seeing you all and discussing your child’s progress.

We will also be looking at safety on the internet next Tuesday, talking about the right ways to use the internet and to be aware of any warning signs when using it.

Have a good week!

Mrs Smith & Mr Gordon

What an exciting week its been with all this snow! However we are all braving the weather to get to school still however do keep an eye on the blog for any news of school closures if the weather gets any worse.

So we have kicked off the New Year with a Big Homework! The children have been asked to use a variety of junk materials to build a castle and label it with the key features listed on the sheet. This is not due until after the half term on Wednesday 14th February. Children will also have to present their models and talk about how they constructed them and what each feature represents.

Phonics and reading will carry on as normal and maths will be given fortnightly. You will receive a newsletter this week outlining the homework and topics we will study this term.

PE kit is required on the following days:

3G: Monday/Thursday

3S: Wednesday/Thursday

Please ensure your child is suitably dressed for outdoor PE: joggers and long sleeved tops and trainers.

Miss Smith set off to pastures new this term and we all miss her terribly however we welcome Mr Gordon to Primary 3 and look forward to getting to know him as the year goes on.

Hope your week is going well!

It’s the most wonderful time of the year……..where we are getting well and truly into the festive spirit of things! We have been rehearsing our Nativity and letters are going home today with information about tickets and times. Your child also received information about their costume so please send in any items as soon as possible.

We all enjoyed our Christmas Lunch yesterday served by our very own P7s and we also were lucky enough to watch ‘The Wizard of Oz’ performed by the Hopscotch Theatre Company today!

Next week the P3s will be having their Christmas party on Tuesday afternoon so please send the children in with their party clothes in a bag to get changed into after lunch.

The dress rehearsal for the nativity is also next week on Wednesday, so please ensure costume bits and pieces are in for then.

On Thursday 14th December we are having a Christmasmas dress down day so dig out the Christmasmas accessories and donate 50p for the PSA.

Homework will also be put on hold until after the New Year, but please encourage your child to look back over their words and read as much as possible!

Many thanks!

Mrs Smith and Miss Smith

P2/3 Nativity: Hey Ewe!

Rehearsals have started and this week we will be handing out various speaking parts to the children. Their words will be highlighted and we would appreciate all the support that you can give to help them to learn these for the show. Those that do not receive a speaking part will be involved in group dances or singing on the stage and we will be rehearsing these in school. Below we have attached the links to the songs we will be learning so feel free to have a wee sing along at home so that the children get used to the words and the tune!

If you have any problems accessing these do let us know!

The frost has started already! So a quick reminder to make sure your child is coming to school wrapped up warm in suitable footwear and clothing. Please, please, please make sure all hats, gloves and scarves are labelled clearly with your child’s name as it is very easy to misplace these items. Also please make sure your child has appropriate clothing for outdoor PE. Tracksuit bottoms and jumpers rather than shorts and t shirts.

We have handed out our new phonic focus for the week, lots of different sounds for your child to learn as well as some recommended common words too.

Last week the children enjoyed their Halloween party, the costumes were fantastic and a lot of fun was had!

Don’t forget on Friday this week we will be having our ‘Weather Party’ to celebrate the end of our topic. The children can bring in their party clothes and we will be providing some snacks and drinks along with a weather film.

Have a good week and if you’re out and about tonight, ‘Happy Trick or Treating’!

Miss Smith, Mrs Smith & Miss Brown

Primary 3 24.10.17

Hello all!

We hope you had a lovely half term break and feel fully rested for the busy term ahead! We have started the week as we mean to go on with our phonic focus and our common words selection. You will notice that the children will have slightly more words to learn using make and break strategies or look, say, cover, write and check. We have also included four common words to practice each week in whichever way you choose. This can be done verbally, in the car, in the supermarket or it can be done using colour on scrap paper in rainbow writing, or opposite handed. The more repetition the children experience the more they will remember when they write in class.

Reading will also be set individually, this will either be stuck in the front of the diary or in the relevant week indicating which pages or chapters to focus on.

PE remains the same with P3S on a Tuesday and Thursday and P3A on a Tuesday and Wednesday.

Our Halloween Disco will be taking place this Thursday at 5pm and the children are already excited about dressing up for this.

We will also be busy planning and rehearsing our P2/3 Nativity and more details of this will follow, don’t want to mention ‘Xmas’ just yet!!!!

It was lovely to see those of you that could attend parent’s evening before half term and as always, our door is open if you have any queries or concerns.

Have a great week!

Mrs Smith, Miss Smith and Miss Brown

This week we are busy getting ready for our Harvest Assembly and your child has stuck their lines into their diary to learn along with their spelling focus of ‘oa’. Can you make sure your child is writing out their words three or more times in their spelling book. If they would like to attempt putting these words into sentences of their own then they are most welcome. Some children in P3 have been writing three or four sentence with some of the spelling words included which has been lovely to see.

Please encourage further practice of their letter formations using scrap paper as well as their common words. All of this will contribute greatly to their writing and reading.

Below we have attached links to the three songs the children are singing in the Harvest Assembly:

  1. Autumn says ‘Hello’
  2. It’s Harvest Time
  3. What are you growing?

If you have time we would appreciate it if you could get your children to listen to the songs and have a go at singing them too. We will also be having a daily sing along in class so that we get the words stuck in our heads!

Autumn Says Hello! (lyrics) Autumn Says Hello! (score)

It’s Harvest Time (lyrics) It’s Harvest Time (score)

What Are You Growing (lyrics) What Are You Growing (score)

Don’t forget to book your appointment with us for Parent Consultations, a letter will be going out this week.

In P3S we also have an extra pair of hands in class! Miss Brown has been with us for a few weeks now and she is taking on more responsibility in class delivering a variety of lessons. The children have been working very well with her and she will also be with us during Parent Consultations to observe.

One last plea! Could you make sure that children have a jacket for school along with indoor and out door shoes? Temperatures are slowly decreasing and it is getting a wee bit chilly even if the sun is out. Don’t forget to label these too!

Have a great week!

Mrs Smith, Miss Smith & Miss Brown 🙂

We have been looking at all things Polish this week for our Erasmus + project. This morning the children sampled some of the local delicacies such as pretzels, cookies, gherkins, sausage, cheese, wafer biscuits and cake. A big thank you to all the mums who donated lots of yummy goodies!

We also went to Eliburn Park yesterday as part of our Outstanding Outdoors Topic. The weather was very kind to us and the children had a great time! Thank you to our parent helpers!

Primary 3 HIIT Session with The Body Coach!

Primary 3 joined hundreds of other schools across the UK, as well as internationally, for a Joe Wicks HIIT workout! It involved working out to different exercises for 30 seconds with a 30 second rest. We were lunging, doing press ups, mountain climbers, squats, high knees and climbing the rope. Our heart rates were up and there was a lot of sweating going on! Check out some of our moves below!

Primary 3 h.ave a busy couple of weeks coming up.

This week we are looking at Poland as part of our Erasmus + project and we will be showcasing our work at the open afternoon on Friday 23rd June. The children have been set a homework task about this. They are to find out any facts about Poland and present to the class. This can be done in any form such as through photos, sentences, craft, stories, food or dance and it is due this Friday 16th June.

We are also planning our beach trip next Tuesday so could you make sure all forms have been handed back in to school along with the £5 payment.

Weather permitting we will be visiting Eliburn Park this Thursday. Please make sure your child has a waterproof jacket, sensible walking shoes and a snack as we won’t return to school until lunch time.

This Friday is our Day of Change, please send in any spare change and the children can dress in opposites such as pjs, scarf, hat and gloves etc.

Primary 3

This week we are going on a woodland walk on Wednesday in the afternoon, please make sure your child comes to school in appropriate footwear as weather has not been good so far this week!

Homework as normal: spelling focus is on ‘sq’ words and our maths focus is on division.

Please make sure your child brings in their PE kit on the appropriate days:

P3S: Tuesday & Wednesday

P3R: Monday & Tuesday

Our focus this week in our ‘Outstanding Outdoors’ topic is on how we look after our local community and we will be coming up with our own mascot to promote this. We will also be looking at how our community can be neglected so if you are out for a walk have a look for any evidence of either of these things and have a chat with your child about it and how it makes them feel.

Have a good week!

First of all, a massive thank you to those of you who were able to come and watch our assembly this morning! We think you’ll agree that the boys and girls were absolute stars! If you weren’t able to make it, don’t worry as we will be hosting a Medieval Banquet in the school lunch hall on Friday 24th March at 11am. The children have been busy planning their invites and they will be handing them to you this week. They will only be able to invite one person and don’t forget to send in a costume for your child to wear.

We will be setting a ‘Drawbridge Challenge’ this week for small groups to carry out in class. To do this we need some junk sent in from home: cereal boxes, toilet/kitchen rolls, small empty packets, empty water/juice bottles etc. We are looking to start this on Wednesday.

Next Tuesday 21st March we will all be heading to Edinburgh Castle, most of this takes place outside whatever the weather so please send your children in to school with waterproof jackets, sensible shoes, hat, scarf and gloves as well as a packed lunch, snack and water bottle. Please send in the orange form we handed out last week with your child’s medical information attached.

Futsal will be taking place tomorrow for all of P3 but from next week PE times will change:

P3S: Kit required on Tuesdays and Wednesdays

P3R: Kit required on Monday and Tuesdays

Maths Homework focus this week is on time: Half past the hour and O’clock

Spelling Homework: ‘aw’ words Please can children write a detailed sentence each night to help them with their writing

If you have any questions about any of the above, you know where we are!

Have a good week!

We had a great week, last week, showcasing Primary 3’s learning to our visitors. The children were fantastic and we could not have been prouder of our school!

This week we will be organising World Book Day on Thursday 2nd March. We will not be dressing up but we will be sharing our favourite books with other classes so if children can remember to do that on Thursday and bring in a favourite story to share that would be great!

Homework this week will be spelling and maths as usual and although our reading focus has changed in class, children will still be bringing home a group book to read with you.

P3S need PE kit on a Monday and Tuesday

P3R need PE kit on a Tuesday and Wednesday

Next week we will be preparing for our P3 Assembly on Monday 13th March at 9am so please pencil the date in you diary as we would love to see you there!

Have a gook week!

Mrs Smith & Miss Rafferty

Primary 3 Sports Festival

Just to let you know that there is an error on the school letter regarding the Sports Festival for P3. It is NOT taking place tomorrow (27.1.17) it is actually taking place next Friday 3rd February.

Children can come to school in their PE kit, we would advise they wear tracksuit bottoms, a t shirt and a fleece or jumper and suitable trainers. They do not need to bring their school uniform.

If you have any queries please do get in touch with us or the school office.

Many thanks,

Mrs Smith & Miss Rafferty

We kicked off our week yesterday with a fantastic virtual reality experience using Google Expedition. We took the children on a journey looking at the Ambush Bug and how it camouflages itself against plants, how it catches its prey and the different parts of its body. The images were so clear, it was as if we were there too! We then looked at the Seven Wonders of the World and traveled to Brazil, Mexico and even Peru!

Homework this week is the usual spelling, maths and reading but the children will be performing their chosen Scottish poem in front of the class on Thursday. They will have a copy of this in their folders. We will be assessing the presentation of this, how well they use their voice, expression, gestures and if they know it off by heart. We will then choose a class winner to perform in our Scottish  Assembly the following day.

Futsal will start next week on Tuesday 24th January, please ensure your children bring in their PE kit and have the correct footwear such as indoor gym rubbers or trainers. PE will also take place on a Monday for P3S and a Wednesday for P3R. On a similar note could you make sure your child’s indoor shoes are intact and safe for walking about the school.

We have been working hard looking at money, making totals of coins and we are currently setting up a class shop so that children can become more familiar with working out change and totals up to £2. Please encourage children to continue these strategies when out and about at the supermarket or the Centre.

Enjoy your week!

We will be having our PE sessions in the hall this term so please ensure children bring in appropriate kit and footwear. The black indoor rubber shoes are great to use for PE so please make sure your children have a pair.

The boys and girls did an amazing job with the Nativity and thank you for all of your support with line learning and costumes etc. We are really looking forward to our Christmas Party tomorrow afternoon. Children are allowed to bring in their party outfits to change into after lunch. We will also be watching a pantomime on Thursday morning to get us into the spirit of things.

Homework is still as normal for this week. Spelling is a mix of all patterns learnt so far and maths is a mix of addition and subtraction. Reading will also continue as normal but next week there will be no homework.

Morning all!

The festivities at Carmondean have officially started with the children enjoying their Christmas dinner last week followed by the Christmas Fair. Although times have been allocated for certain festive activities our timetable is pretty much still in place! Our focus in Maths this week will be an end of topic assessment looking at subtraction and we will also be looking at various patterns in our 2,5 and 10X tables so that they can easily be remembered. Our spelling focus is still the ‘ay’ pattern but words are slightly trickier this week so make sure the children are using ‘Look, Say, Cover, Write and Check’ when writing them out each night. Our big news this week will be Wednesday where you will get to see all of your little stars in the P2/3 Nativity, ‘Lights, Camel, Action!’ Performances will be held at the church at 9:30am and 1:30pm. Looking forward to seeing you all there!

Homework:

Maths: Timestable focus

Spelling: ‘ay’ words

Reading: As indicated in their diaries

We will also be practising our Christmas dancing for our party which takes place next Tuesday afternoon, 13th December.

Have a good week!

Mrs Smith & Miss Rafferty
