Primary 3 News

Next week we have our P3 Multisports Festival at Deans Community High School. It is taking place on Wednesday 26th September. It will be outside so it is important children are dressed in tracksuit bottoms, a T shirt, fleece, waterproof jacket and trainers. They will also need a water bottle. Children can come to school in their sports kit so that no uniform is mislaid that day. They will have school lunch as normal before leaving and we will bring them back to school for the end of the day.

We had a surprise visitor this week who is currently perched on our cloud observing all the boys and girls whilst they learn about the weather. Her name is Summer Winter and she is not doing too well describing the weather where she comes from so she is hoping to pick up some facts from our own weather experts!

Homework will start again next week with a spelling focus. Reading will also continue and some maths will be given too.

After school clubs start next week too and I believe there is plenty of spaces available so please do get in touch with the school office to enquire if any clubs are still available for your child.

Have a lovely weekend!

What a busy week we have had! We have had some interesting discussions around seasons and why we have them. This has helped Summer Winter, our weather fairy, gain a deeper understanding of the weather we experience during each season and the clothes we have to wear. In writing we have been using a wide range of vocabulary to extend our sentences further describing what we can see. In maths we have developed our understanding of the properties of 2 and 3D shapes as well as develop our addition and subtraction strategies using a 100 square.

This weekend is a long one! So we will see you Wednesday 19th September. PE will resume as normal. New reading books will be issued, please read these daily for practise. There will be no spelling or maths homework next week.

Have a great weekend!

Thank you to all of you for coming to see us on Friday, last week. The children were very excited to show off their work and share their dream jobs with you.

We have a busy week ahead of us starting with our Beach Trip tomorrow. Please can you make sure the children have applied sun cream before they get dressed in the morning. They can then wear their swimming things under their shorts along with plenty of layers such as a t shirt, fleece/jumper and a waterproof jacket. They must also bring footwear for paddling in such as flip flops or croc style shoes as well as a spare plastic bag containing extra pants, socks, t shirt and shorts or trousers. They must also bring a towel, snack, water bottle and packed lunch unless provided by the school and a bucket and spade all labelled with names.

On Wednesday we will be having our annual Sports Day. Children will need to bring in their PE kits with their house colour T shirt. If they do not have that particular colour then a bib will be provided. Again, please ensure your child has a water bottle.

Reading and phonics as normal although this will be our last week of homework.

Have a good week!

Hi all,

Yet another fabulous weekend weather wise! What a great day we all had on Saturday at our Summer Fun Run. If you have any sponsor money don’t forget to send it in to school.

We are also still collecting our EE2 forms for our beach trip next week and our orange slips to let us know if you can attend our open morning this Friday. Times are 9:30 to 10:30 and 11 to 12.

This Thursday we are hoping to go to Eliburn Park even if there are light showers so please make sure your child has appropriate footwear, a rain jacket and a snack with a water bottle. Children must wear school uniform as normal and we will return to school for lunch.

Free time Friday will be taking place on Thursday this week because of the open morning so children can bring toys in on Thursday instead.

Homework this week is both Phonics and Maths and is due in on Friday. Reading continues as normal.

Have a great week!

What another lovely weekend of sunshine! Hope you have all been making the most of it!

This week we have been challenging some of our pupils with some division and multiplication word problems. Please support them only with the reading of these but encourage them to calculate their answers independently. They can write the sum and the answer next to the question.

Phonics and reading will be taking place as normal.

In writing this week we will be asking the children to research a restaurant in Livingston for an information leaflet. Perhaps chat with them at home about a restaurant you have been to before so they can draw upon their own knowledge too.

In Numeracy we will be looking at strategies to double and half numbers quickly as well as identify halves and quarters of various shapes and numbers. Increase your child’s mental agility by quick firing some numbers at them over dinner this week!

With the weather being so good we will be making the most of it by getting outside so please ensure your child has a water bottle, appropriate footwear, sun cream applied and even a hat. All labelled so we don’t lose any items!

Have a good week!

Well what a fabulous few days of sunshine we are having!

We were busy today finding our fastest runners in each house in preparation for Sports Day in June. There were a lot of our boys and girls without a water bottle and although we were able to supply water could we please ensure that our children come to school with a water bottle, especially at this time of year. Also apply a wee bit of sun cream to faces and arms if you know your child’s skin is susceptible to getting a little red in the heat.

Homework this week is on phonics with the additional request to write 3 sentences. Also we have handed out some maths. This is based on dividing by 3 or multiplying by 2. Please encourage your child to use concrete materials such as lego pieces if they get stuck! They can then put these into groups of 2 or 3 and it makes it easier to visualise. Reading is also as normal this week.

In literacy we will be designing a new play park which links in with our outstanding outdoors topic so feel free to have a discussion around the dinner table about what equipment you would include if you could design your own play park and how would you describe the equipment using lots of interesting adjectives!

Let hope this sunshine continues!

Enjoy

Hope you have all had a lovely weekend and enjoyed a bit of peace and quiet if your little ones went to Lowport!

We are looking forward to hearing all about it this morning in Check In.

This week’s homework is phonics and reading. Again, please remind the children to include 3 detailed sentences underneath their words. Encourage lots of good vocabulary to make the sentences more interesting.

This week is Eco Week so we will be looking at outdoor learning involving maths and French. We will be preparing our very own P3 vegetable plot and we will be learning about Biodiversity and Life on Land. We will also be partaking in a Spring Clean of the outside areas of our school. Our time is 2:30 tomorrow (Tuesday 1st May) so feel free to come and join us if you can. Just let us  or the office know.

Hope you all have a great week!

This week we will not be sending home any phonic or maths work because of our trip to Lowport. We will be setting reading as normal.

On Wednesday the children need to come to school in their PE kit. The football challenge will be taking place outside so please ensure your child is dressed appropriately. It is likely to be cold and there may be some showers so I would recommend tracksuit bottoms, a t shirt, fleece and a waterproof jacket. Please also ensure a snack is packed along with a water bottle. The children will be changing into their school uniform on return so please make sure this is packed in their bags.

On Thursday some of our P3s will be heading to Lowport. If you have any questions or queries regarding the trip please get in touch. Children remaining will be working hard creating an outstanding outdoors corner for our classes and hopefully will also do a bit of gardening weather permitting.

Have a good week!

Hope you all had a lovely weekend in the sun shine!

This week we have handed out phonics homework and maths which is focusing on the 3X table. Don’t forget that the Phonics homework also needs to include 3 sentences that are detailed. The children need to really think about their VCOP choices.

You will also receive a letter about our Tesco Football Challenge that will be taking place next Wednesday 25th April. The letter outlines details of what the children must wear and you need to complete the EE2 form so that your child can go.

Next week we will not be setting homework because of the Lowport Residential however we will still send home their reading books.

PE is on Monday for P3S and Wednesday for P3G.

Have a good week!

Welcome back! We hope you all had a good Easter break.

We are looking forward to another busy term ahead. Homework has already been given for the week. This term we would like children to attempt to write 3 sentences with their words. We would like the children to use lots of VCOP. This means they need to think about their choice of openers, connectives to extend the sentence and description to make it more interesting.

Reading pages have also been given and maths will be given on a fortnightly basis starting next week. In maths we will be looking at our 3 and 4 timetables as well as money so if you want to practice with your children that would be great!

PE kit is needed on the following days:

P3S: Monday/Tuesday

P3G: Tuesday/Wednesday

Don’t forget our Lowport Residential meeting taking place this Wednesday evening.

Have a good week!

What a busy week we had last week!

I’m sure you will all agree that the P3 Assembly was a huge success and the children were all absolute stars! Thank you for coming to that and a big thank you for attending our banquet on Friday. Photos to follow! It was a brilliant opportunity for you all to see how hard the children have worked this term on their topic and how much it has motivated them!

Tomorrow we will be visiting Edinburgh Castle and judging by today’s weather I think it will be a little cold! So lots of layers needed and appropriate footwear along with school uniform. Also a packed lunch if you did not preorder one with the school.

As it is the last week of term there will be no homework this week. Weather permitting we will still be hoping to get out for some PE so please send in kit on the relevant days and football will be taking place on Tuesday.

Will update you on Tuesday with details of our trip and photos of all events!

Have a good week!

Welcome back after a week of snow!

This week we will be busy rehearsing our Knights and Castles Assembly. Today we will give your child their lines and they must learn these every day.

Instead of handing out new phonic words we will continue working on the same sounds but we have asked children to write 5 sentences with their words.

PE will take place for both classes on Tuesday and for P3S on Wednesday.

We will continue to look at division this week and finish off our Time focus.

Have a good week!

Primary 3 Snow Day 3!

Hi all!

Hope you’re enjoying all this snow still! My boys have enjoyed trying to bury themselves in it today!

What have you been up to?

Instead of building a snowman today, could you build a castle? Include all of its features such as a snowy moat?

You could wrap snowballs in different materials and leave them for ten minutes in a bowl and see which was the best insulator? Which was the worst?

If you are inside why not curl up with a good book or even draw me a picture diary of the last few days you’ve had at home?

Stay warm!

Mrs Smith & Mr Gordon

Primary 3 Snow Day 2!

What an exciting week it has been!

Hope you managed to get out and have a play in the snow yesterday! Similar to yesterday’s activities continue learning your phonic words. Could you write a paragraph using all the words like they do in the phoneme stories we share every Monday?

Lots of opportunities to measure in the garden all the different snow drifts! Who has the longest?

World Book Day today so you could read to a family member or even design a new front cover for your favourite book!

Did you manage to look at different types of armour worn in medieval times? Design armour a knight could wear today! Think about how you could disguise the weapons they use in the armour, make the armour more superhero like?

Build a snowman and dress it up medieval style! Save your pictures to share in class!

Whatever you do stay safe, wrapped up and warm! Have fun!

Mrs Smith and Mr Gordon

Primary 3 Snow Day!

Good morning P3!

Hope you are all enjoying the white stuff! Below is a list of other activities you could do today:

1) In maths we have been dividing by 2 so you could make a poster using objects from home showing different calculations. You could even use snow balls and take pictures of these and we can display these in class.

2) Using your phonic focus this week, make a poster showing all the different words and challenge yourself writing three sentences using a variety of VCOP we looked at last week.

3) If you have access to the internet research armour worn by knights in Medieval times and  make sketches of these as we will be making our own life size Knights in Topic this week!

4) Carry on reading your book and look out for any words that contain our recent phonics focus.

5) Choose a book to share for World Book Day tomorrow in class and tell us why it is one of your favourites.

6) Go for a walk and think about the five senses and describe all the things you can see, hear, feel, smell and even taste!

Enjoy your day!

Mrs Smith & Mr Gordon

This week in P3 we will be handing out Assembly parts. Your child will have a line stuck in their homework diaries and we would appreciate your support with helping your child to learn these. We have also adapted Ed Sheeran’s song, ‘Castle on the Hill’ and we have given these words to your child to learn. We will be singing this daily in school and the link for the music is below.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N56nBWBIlvk

Both classes will have football on a Tuesday for the next 5 weeks and P3S will have PE on a Wednesday also. Please ensure indoor kit is brought in on both of these days.

On Thursday it is World Book Day and we will be celebrating this on Friday with a grand tour of each stage’s book corner and a sharing of the books that each child chose to add to their new reading corner.

Other homework this week will be spelling and reading as normal.

Also the weather is set to turn colder again so please ensure your child has appropriate footwear and coats, scarves, hats and gloves.

Have a good week!

This week we will be looking at the 5x table and our maths homework covers the 2s, 5s and 10s. Please encourage your child to do this on their own and use concrete materials if needed (such as lego pieces). Please also let us know if they struggle with the work.

They also have their weekly spelling words and reading too.

On Tuesday we are lucky enough to have a visit from Tesco Football who will be working with our children, developing a variety of skills. Please ensure they bring their PE kit to school.

Many thanks for the pledges you have returned regarding ‘Smoke-free Homes and Cars’. There is still time to fill this in and return to your child’s class teacher.

A confirmed date for your diary is our P3 Banquet which is taking place on Friday 16th March 11:15-12:15. You will be sent an invitation but because of the large number of children we can only accommodate one person from the family.

Also don’t forget our Knights and Castle Assembly on Tuesday 13th March. Next week we will send home any words they need to learn.

Many thanks for your continued support!

Have a good week.

We kicked off the week with a topic challenge of medieval weapon making! We can’t wait for you to come and see our creations during parent consultations. These take place this Wednesday and Thursday and appointments can be made on-line but if you have any problems please get in touch with our lovely school office!

Homework this week is a phonics and reading focus but don’t forget our ‘Big Homework’ which is due next week on 14th February. Children will be expected to present their models and talk through the planning and designing of it as well as each feature of the castle.

Today is Safer Internet Day so we will be learning about how to be safe on-line as well as be aware of any dangers.

After the half term break we will be planning our P3 Assembly so a date for your diary is Tuesday 13th March at 9am but we will send details of this nearer the time as well as any lines we may want your child to learn.

Looking forward to seeing you all this week and don’t forget Friday is Dress Down Day and children can wear red or pink in celebration of Valentines with a cost of 50p.
