P6 took part in first aid training today thanks to Mike and Dave from Lowport Centre. This was organised after P6 took an interest in first aid during our drugs education topic. The training was excellent and P6 have gained some valuable life skills. Here’s what P6 thought:
Amy says, “I was glad I took part in it because it’s an important skill.”
James says, “The dummies smelt funny”
Ian says, “Both the men who were running it said that I was the best.”
Arran says, “I learned how to do CPR properly!”
Niamh, “I learned how to put somebody into the recovery position.”
Euan “It was really fun and it’s a great life skill. The adults were much harder to give CPR to.”
Pupils are learning about different parts of the body in class. We have been singing , ” Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes” in French as well as designing our own monster. This has let us use our reading and writing skills. We also used our talking skills when we described our monster to someone else.
We are looking forwards to finding out all about different types of food and studying the story of “Camille, la petite Chenille”- The Very Hungry Caterpillar.
During Eco week we made our very own paper – it was messy work but great fun!
As part of Eco week P6 investigated how much water our families use a week – the results were quite scary! As a class we thought of ways we could help conserve water – we all need to do our bit for our future!

You could hear a pin drop in P6 this morning as each company was finalising budgets and preparing pitches to enter the Dragon’s Den with the best possible chance of gaining an investment. But just who will be the Dragons? Watch this space to find out!
P6 have been set a design brief to create and produce a Fairtrade product. By taking in part in this enterprising activity we hope to show that Fairtrade isn’t just about a fortnight a year… it is important ALL year round!

Education must develop every child’s personality, talents and abilities to the full. It must encourage the child’s respect for human rights, as well as respect for their parents, their own and other cultures, and the environment.
Today we were learning about drugs in HWB. We were looking at activities that can give us a natural high such as doing hobbies and playing with friends. James

On Monday we did gymnastics in gym again. We were practising cartwheels, forward and backward rolls. It was fun! Alex
We played Growth Mindset football. We had to challenge our opponents to find the opposing Growth Mindset phrase. Laurie-Anne
Sophie won the Burns Competition which means she will be going through to recite her poem ‘The Joyful Widower’ at St Kents Academy. Well done Sophie!
The following sports clubs are currently running from the James Young H.S for primary aged children.
Athletics Club, P4-P7
Fridays – 2.00-3.30pm
Cost – £3 per session. Payable in blocks.
Gymnastics, P1-P7
Tuesdays – 4.00-5.00pm

We made raps, posters and leaflets showing the dangers of certain substances in Health and Wellbeing. We looked at warning signs as well. Kian
We have been learning about tobacco. We played a game called Who Am I? We had to guess who cigarette smoke infected the most in a household. Daryl and Harry
We have been doing gymnastics in gym. We have been practising cartwheels. Alex
We were to choose an animal of our choice and write two paragraphs about them. One about what the animal looks like and one about how it moves and acts. We were to translate this into Scots language. Jaime
We were learning Scottish poems such as ‘Lament on Mary Queen of Scott’s.’ Emma
Aisha brought in a lovely piece of work she completed at home in showing information on the Eatwell Plate.
