P3/4 Highlights

For Scottish Maths week we have been designing place value monsters to show our teacher our understanding of place value.

For Roald Dahl day we watched a video clip of the BFG catching dreams and then we wrote our own dreams in a dream jar.

IDL: We have been learning about the different inventions of Alexander Graham Bell such as a metal detector, as well as a device that can separate grain from husks and not forgetting the telephone.

P2/3’s maths week

For Scottish Maths week we have been learning lots about numbers and sorting:

Neve: I’ve learnt that 6+4=10 in Number Talks.

Olivia: I’ve been practising my number bonds during Number Talks.

Logan: I learnt how to sort the emojis into groups.

Chloe: I learnt to make patterns with the shapes. We had to think about how to sort them by shapes and colours.

We’ve been reading James and the Giant Peach as our class Novel:

Roxanne: I’ve been learning about James and the Giant Peach. Aunt Sponge and Aunt spiker are rude and one is fat and the other is skinny.

For Roald Dahl day we read ‘The Enormous Crocodile’. We wrote words to describe the crocodile and painted crocodiles. We dipped objects in paint and used them to print shapes onto the crocodile. Well done to Conor M for speaking at the whole school assembly about our Roald Dahl activities.

What else have we learnt?

Conor M: This week we’ve learning ‘sh’ and ‘ch’. We sorted ‘sh’ and ‘ch’ words into groups.

Amy: We’ve been learning how to write small ‘o’ and capital ‘O’ for handwriting. We had to do peer assessments to vote for the best ‘o’ in our peer’s work.

Taiba: We learnt about carnivores, herbivores and omnivores for our Dinosaur topic.

Ollie: I’ve learnt that in school you always have to try on everything; maths, number talks and reading. We always have to keep on trying.

It’s been a busy week in P3

This week (as always) has been a very busy week with the wonderful P3’s. We worked really hard using different materials, like feathers, felt and googly eyes to make birds for Mr. Twit’s bird pie. We then wrote out our own recipes for bird pie using ingredients and numbered steps. For Scottish maths week we solve a variety of different puzzles, our favourite was sitting the knights around the king/queen’s table. We also looked at the learning pit and created colourful and inspirational posters to help us when we get stuck in our learning. They teach us to persevere and never give up.

Busy bees in P1b!

This week in class we have been learning some new sounds – n, i and k.  We have been learning how to correctly form the sounds and have been thinking about some things which begin with these sounds.  We made some igloos when we learned about i and a nest when we were learning about n.

In maths we have now learned how to write all the numbers to 10 and are continuing to practise forming these neatly and correctly.  We have been looking at dot patterns and numbers on the ten frame and have been trying to quickly say how many there are without counting e.g. when there is one space we know that this is 9 as one number is missing.  We have enjoyed lots of different activities during Scottish Maths week.

We also enjoyed reading the Roald Dahl book ‘The Enormous Crocodile’ this week to celebrate Roald Dahl day.  We created our own pieces of art disguising the crocodile in different ways just like he did in the book!  They are fantastic!

P6a – Scottish Maths Week and Roald Dahl Day

We have been busy this week in class. We have been taking part in Scottish Maths Week where we worked collaboratively with others in our class to complete various challenges. Check out our photos where we used a single string to create 2D and 3D shapes. We all had to have a hand on the string at all times.

Wednesday was Roald Dahl Day. We created our own chocolate bar/sweetie and described why others may want to eat/buy it.
We hope to share more with you throughout the school year.
Thanks for reading,
Mrs Murray and P6a

Visit to the Post Office

The nursery children had the opportunity to visit the post office in the centre where they have to find out what happens to letters and parcels after we take them there. The children learnt about how the ladies have to measure the post to ensure that the correct money is paid for the postage.

We would like to say Thank You to Caroline for letting the children visit.

Lots of Fun in P1b

Well done to all the boys and girls in P1b.  You have settled into school life really well and are all working so hard.

On Monday we practised our listening skills in the small hall and enjoyed moving around the hall in different ways.

In literacy this week we have learned about the sounds p, a and t.  We have been learning how to form the sounds correctly and have been thinking of some words that begin with these sounds.  Connor enjoyed writing the ‘t’ sound using our reminder ‘down the tower, out the tower then across the tower!’

In writing, we read the story ‘Six Dinner Sid’ and thought about our favourite dinner.  The children drew detailed pictures and wrote about their best dinners.  Patrycja enjoyed using her sounds to write her story about her favourite dinner-  pizza.

In maths, we practised ordering numbers, forming our numbers correctly and even had a go at reading the number names from 0-5.  Everyone enjoyed playing the splat the number name game at the teach table!

On Thursday afternoon we enjoyed lots of different activities in the structured play area.  We were being creative at the art table, sorting pictures showing different emotions,  (joy, sadness, disgust, anger and fear) reading in the library corner, completing number jigsaws, building with the construction, playing with the dolls houses and dressing up in the role-play area.  It was great fun!

We also had fun in the school library and can’t wait until the computer is fixed so that we can scan a book out and take it home!

Keep up the good work boys and girls. Looking forward to next week!
