P4 update

This week we had our Burns competition. Laura and Zoe represented our class and we are very proud of them.

In maths we have been learning our 8x table and we liked listening to the 8x table rap. We have been multiplying a 2 digit number by a single digit number and we are starting to get the hang of it now. Zoe and Brooke think that we need to practise more and do our homework on this for next week.

Carlos really liked writing his story about a knight. We had to keep the story going and keep the characters going too. Sir Lancelot and Sir Galahad did lots of different things. Laura wrote a super story where Sir Lancelot married the princess and they lived happily ever after.

Morgan took 2 days to do her learning pit poster but she thinks it was worth it.

P6 Stretch their Minds!

Today we were learning about drugs in HWB. We were looking at activities that can give us a natural high such as doing hobbies and playing with friends.   James

We have been exploring the work of Picasso this week. Watch this space for some photos of our art work next week….!     Kalanah

On Monday we did gymnastics in gym again. We were practising cartwheels, forward and backward rolls. It was fun!    Alex

We played Growth Mindset football. We had to challenge our opponents to find the opposing Growth Mindset phrase.   Laurie-Anne

Sophie won the Burns Competition which means she will be going through to recite her poem ‘The Joyful Widower’ at St Kents Academy. Well done Sophie!

Text Detectives in P1b!

Today P1b worked in their reading routes groups to explore a piece of text and to highlight the parts that looked different.  The class all co-operated very well in their teams and worked together to take turns when highlighting.  They really were text detectives as they managed to spot different examples of bold and italic text.  We read the text aloud and discussed how these types of text affect how the reader reads aloud the text and thought of some ideas about why they author uses these different types of text.  Can you spot some different types of text in any of your books at home?

Marvellous Measuring!

P1b were practising their measuring skills at the beginning of the week when they were using a variety of items to measure different objects and pictures.  We measured with paper clips, lollysticks and even straws.  We learned that you have to make sure that the items are touching and that there are no big gaps in order to measure accurately.  We even practised our estimating skills and were quite close with a lot of our estimates!  Have a look at us in action and why not have a go at using some straws or cubes to estimate and then measure some things around your house.  Let us know how you get on!

A Busy Week in P1b!

Well done to all the children in P1b – great work with learning your Scottish poems and we all really enjoyed listening to you saying them using your big loud, clear voices.  Some of you even added in some actions to make your performance even better!

We also had some special visitors in the school this week – ‘Macastory’ who were telling us about Robert Burns and taught us some fun Scottish songs.  We were all really good audience members and thoroughly enjoyed it.

The children also really impressed Mrs Lloyd with their R.M.E. homework and enjoyed sharing information about who decided on their names, sharing the special gifts that they recieved when they were born and discussing any special celebrations that took place.  Nathan S even brought in his special gift ‘Jingle Bunny’ to show us.  He was very cute!

The dragon has been back again and even left the children a present this time!  He complimented them on the beanstalk that they have made for the classroom and left them some castle books for them to write in so they can keep him updated on what they are working on.

More fun was had with fairyland related activities in the structured play area.

I wonder what you’ll be up to next week P1b…………………………

A week in primary 2

This week we have been working very hard to subtract a small number from a bigger number. Some children were even counting up into the thousands! In spelling we learnt new words like ‘sight’, ‘tight’ and ‘high’.

We enjoyed a super performance from Macastory who visited the school this week. They told us excellent Scottish stories and they taught us some Scottish songs.

Sachin: ‘I have learnt some new verbs like ‘to eat’, ‘to row’ and ‘to sail’.’

Ayla: ‘I learnt some new Scottish words like ‘mooth’ which means mouth, ‘lugs’ which means ears, ‘airms’ which means arms and ‘taes’ which means toes’.

Kiernan: ‘I have learnt how to draw a dinosaur using a stencil’.

Aiysha: ‘We learnt that some dinosaurs eat leaves and some don’t eat leaves’.

Izaak: ‘Carnivores are meat eaters. Meat and plant eaters are omnivores. Plant eaters are called herbivores’.

Niamh: ‘I have learnt some names of dinosaurs. I know about the Stegosaurus’.

Cameron A: ‘I learnt that Pterodactyls can fly’.

Kieran: ‘We have been learning to subtract in maths. Also I learnt what a t-rex eats’.

Well done to the class dojo champion Ayla Cowan.
