Last week of term !!!

P1a have been busy learning all about patterns this week. We can continue shape and colour patterns.

We have been doing lots of practical activities like making pattern bead strings, printing patterns and colouring in the colour patterns.

We have also been doing lots of science this week about water. Did you know that water can be a solid, liquid and a gas.

We explored ice and water and looked at how they were different.

The water is wet – Fraser.

The ice is chilly – Chloe

I liked the ice – Kayleigh

Well done P1a

It’s almost the holidays!

Well, Primary 6 and 7B certainly did themselves proud this morning as we said our sad but happy goodbyes to Mrs Oliver and Mrs Learmonth. The ladies have been at the school for a combined total of 32 years! We sang our special version of ‘You will retire!’ to the tune ‘You will survive!’.

We also sang Mrs Lough’s favourite song as she is off to a new school over the river 😉 in Glasgow. We sang James Bay’s ‘Hold Back the River’.

P 4/5’s breaking news

This week in science we finished up our unit on inheritance, where we learnt about different characteristics.  We have started to develop our skills in benchball this week and were very successful.  Also this week we started reading the Twits, and we looked at a character description of Mr. Twit.  Chloe had a very different view of what Mr. Twit would look like, while Lucca’s looked very close to what Mr. Twit looked like in the book.  On Friday we had lots of fun dressing up as different animals to help support the building of a orphanage in Kenya.  Star of the week this week was Lucca, well done!! Hopefully we will win Goblet of Good Manners when we get back.

P4 update

Carlos really liked doing his art homework for the African art competition. Well done to everyone who took part in it and to Carlos who is our class winner. His picture will be going over to Africa with Mrs Lough and Miss Kennedy in the October break. We hope they have a great time. Brooke really liked our spelling work and now remembers the rule about dropping the e before adding a y. Sanah has been working hard on joining up letters in her handwriting and is feeling pleased with what she has done. Coben thought it was great fun acting out bits of ‘Gangsta Grann’y- our class novel. He really like playing the part of granny. Ryan was really pleased to get all of his work finished off. Well done P4 for a great first term.

Holiday Week

This week P3 continued working on numbers to 100. Some groups have been adding numbers over 100!

Yesterday we enjoyed make shoreline pictures using tissue paper to great effect.

We are nearly at the end of our Katie Morag topic and this week we put speech from a story into speech bubbles and we also read Katie Morag and the Tiresome Ted. We shared things that make us angry and frustrated and spoke about ways of calming ourselves down.

Through our writing we were reminded of our adventure to Inchcolm Island last week.

We are all looking forward to our holidays next week.

Nursery News

Last week some new resources arrived in the nursery.  Our favourite is our new building bricks which we used to build big towers.  We were great at sharing the bricks with our friends and asked each other if we could borrow bricks to make our towers bigger when we ran out.  Using careful building and counting skills we worked out that it took 16 bricks to be as tall as Kayla and 17 bricks to be as tall as Zak.

Addition Experts!

P1b impressed Mrs Lloyd today with their fantastic addition.  Everyone was working and concentrating really hard to ensure that they were counting carefully.  P1 now know what an adding sign and an equals sign looks like and are working hard to make sure that they can write all their numbers round the right way.

Yaroslav enjoyed the dice addition today while Isla liked counting out the animals.  Nathan C enjoyed counting the spots on the dominoes while Olivia liked using our adding machine.  Ben enjoyed adding the popcorn numbers and Caleb’s favourite activity was playing the beach holiday game on the laptops.  Well done boys and girls and keep up the good work!

P2’s adventure

On Thursday P2, P2/3 and P3 went on a very exciting trip to Inchcolm Island. We went on a bus and a ferry to get there.

We discovered a secret trap door on the floor of the ferry. This morning the P2s imagined what was beneath the trap door:

Sachin: ‘I think that there was a pirate behind the door guarding a treasure chest’.

Jack: ‘I think that it was a door to a mega shark tank’.

Aiyasha: ‘I think that it was a magic door. Inside the magic door there is a magic box with a magic wand in it.

Baillie: ‘I think that it was a door to SpongeBob’s house’.

Maya: ‘I think that it was a secret entrance’.

After climbing off the ferry, we went on an adventure walk around the island and explored the abbey. We had fun watching two seals playing in the water together while we ate our lunch on the beach. The children enjoyed collecting shells and Kieran even found a crab’s claw!

Leo: ‘My favourite part was finding the trap door’.

Jodie: ‘My favourite part was going on the boat’.

Daniel C: ‘I liked being at the seaside and eating lunch on the beach’.

Matthew: ‘I learned how waves work. If the boat goes fast, it makes bigger waves’.

Ayla: ‘I learned that a baby seal is called a pup’.

Our learning in class:

In P2, we have been learning about nouns. We know that nouns are naming words and we wrote a list of all of the nouns we could think of. We are beginning to understand the difference between proper and common nouns.

In maths, we have been adding numbers together and learning about odd and even numbers.

Alex: ‘I learned how to make another number by adding two numbers together’.

Maya: ‘I learned that 4+4 makes 8 on the fish tank game’.

Niamh: ‘I worked with the 10 frame to add numbers to 10’.

Ryan: ‘I learned to add and take away numbers to 6 and 7’.

Well done to Sarah Foster who won the class prize for excellent behaviour this week!

P2/3 Update!

Star of the Week

Instead of having a ‘Star of the Week’ I decided to have ‘Stars of the Week’ for our class as they were fab role models as representatives of Bankton Primary School on our school trip.

Stars of the Week

Charles loved gathering shells on the beach.

Andre loved the abbey.

The rest of the class loved the seals, the beach and the boat ride.

Class Dojo

Our weekly champion was Samantha with a fantastic total of total of 52 points and Aaron K coming a close second with 51.

Reading

During our ‘Guided Reading Sessions’ we have learned two new reading strategies i.e. ‘Eagle Eye’ and ‘Stretchy Snake’.  Please ask your child how these strategies can help them to read.

P1b hard at work ………… again!!

This has been a very busy week.  We had great fun again in the structured play area where we were practising recognising all the coins when we were buying items in the shop!  Some chefs were busy working on making delicious healthy meals while in the role play area others were looking after the babies!

We have been working on shape again this week and have made lovely shape tractors which link with our harvest topic.  Take a look at us in action!

Please leave us a comment if you can – we like reading them!
