Bike Shed Mural

Pupils in S1 spent some time last week working with artist Ursula Cheng to work on some designs that will transform our bike shed. We look forward to seeing the finished result. Thanks to Shetland Arts for their support in this project.

S2 Outdoor Days

This week pupils in S2 got the chance to go out on some outdoor exploration days with the Outdoor Education team. They went on a walk from Garths Ness and headed up towards Fitful Head. Check out these clips below to see what they got up too!

LGBT+ History Month

The LGBT+ Group at Sandwick Junior High School have been busy celebrating LGBT History Month. Have a look at some of the things we got up too!

A display board was put together in the school that had famous people in history that were from the LGBT+ community. Teachers spoke about some of these famous people during classes if they were relevant to their subject. Along the bottom of the display is a timeline of historical events related to LGBT issues.

On Wednesday 23rd, staff pupils had the oppertunity to take a pledge to show their support to the LGBT Community by drawing round their hand, cutting it out and sticking it to our pledge poster.

And finally since we were not in school for Purple Friday, we held our celebration on the Thursday instead! Pupils were encouraged to wear purple to show their support to the LGBT community. There was also a number of temporary tattoos that young people could have.

Thank you to everyone who took part!

S1 Badminton Tournament

On Monday 24th January we completed our S1 badminton tournament.  The event was fantastic, with 17 pupils in S1 taking part over 4 days of lunch time competition.  All participants had the opportunity to play each other, and the players with the most points at the end of the round robin entered into a short knockout stage to decide the overall standings.

Well done to all those who took part, we look forward to running some more events in the near future.

Child Trust Fund 16-19 year olds

Registered charity The Share Foundation, which works for the Department for Education (Children’s Services), is working hard to ensure that young people aged 16-19 are informed about their accounts, already open in their name; and that they know how to claim them from their account provider.

We’ve developed a special web search facility in conjunction with the account providers and HMRC, and we’ve produced three short videos specially designed for this age group which we can provide with a script for in-school presentations.
