Our wonderful choir entertained a full boathouse of family members and friends on Saturday. They sang a collection of 10 Christmas songs.
Audience members kindly donated over £156.27, which will all be donated to the Archie Foundation.
We had a very musical circle time this morning in P6N!
Our choir members from P5 and P6 were welcomed along to the Over 60s Club in Islesburgh on Tuesday. They entertained their audience with a selection of Christmas songs.
Huge thanks to the members who donated £45 to the choir- all monies being donated to the Archie Foundation.
P3s entertained pupils in P1-3 today with their assembly on Light and Dark. They did an amazing job of sharing their learning with others. Their super audience were able to recognise many of the school values in their performance. Stating that they were like ‘Le
o the Learning Lion’, ‘Resilient Super Rabbit’, ‘Enjoyment George the Penguin’, ‘Kate the Confident Unicorn’ and ‘Robbie the Respectful Owl’.
We hope you agree…………….
Bell’s Brae celebrates gold School Sport Award
Bell’s Brae Primary School is the first school in Shetland to receive a gold School Sport Award for delivering physical education and extra-curricular sport. The National Lottery funded sportscotland School Sport Award is a national initiative that is designed to encourage schools to continuously improve PE and sport.
The Gold Award was officially presented to the School Sport Committee this afternoon by Jacqueline Lynn, Head of School and Community with sportscotland. The School Sport Committee at the school has brought pupils, teachers and their Active Schools Coordinator together to plan and develop PE and school sport projects. These have included taking part in extracurricular sport, allowing pupils to plan and deliver sports sessions, and a re-vamp of the Daily Mile challenge, which saw pupils collect points for their house team by doing laps of running or walking in the playground each day.
To achieve a Bronze or Silver sportscotland School Sport Award, schools self-assess their current practice. To gain Gold status, evidence from the school was gathered and submitted for assessment by an independent panel.
Head Teacher Jennifer Wadley said “Our pupils are at the forefront of decision-making and have helped to put PE and sport at the heart of the school. We are keen to promote sport and physical activity and we’re pleased that the work and commitment of learners, staff and the wider school community has been recognised with this prestigious award.’
Stewart Harris, Chief Executive of sportscotland said: “Congratulations to all the staff and pupils at Bell’s Brae Primary School – they should be extremely proud of this fantastic achievement. Not only have they put physical education and sport at the heart of their school and local community, but they have managed to do so in a way that encourages all pupils to engage in physical activity whilst having fun at the same time. Working with our partners in local authorities and governing bodies of sport, sportscotland is creating closer links between physical education, school sport and club sport, which benefits young people by providing more and better opportunities to take part in sport.”
We are thrilled to report that our Pupil Council members were successful in securing £1000 for the school.
Their bid to the ‘Loot for Lerwick’ was for:
‘We want to get our school pupils out into the community and experience the exciting things that Shetland has to offer. Many pupils in our school have not experienced many of the local sights and learning opportunities i.e. Sands of Sound Beach, Weather Station, Power Station, Rovahead, Organised Tours of Lerwick Bressay, Scatness Dig, Turriefield, Scalloway Castle/Museum, , Michaelswood etc. ‘
The Pupil Council members did a wonderful job of speaking to members of the pupil about their bid and the benefits it would bring to the school community.
Here are some pictures of a typical busy day in P2n. The class has been learning to use Rekenrek counting frames to help them with subtraction and this has worked really well. Also some great work at the craft table, games table and big book reading activity. Checkout the class singing Frere Jacques in two groups at the top of the page!
We have had a busy first 2 weeks in Primary 1. We are working on developing our fine motor skills prior to writing. We have taken part in a range of fun activities to practise using our dominant hand and assisting hand; using a tripod grip; controlling small tools etc.
Watch our wonderful P2 pupils entertain everyone!
