As part of their Health & Wellbeing programme and to stay fit and healthy P6s have been running around the playground for five minutes twice a week.
Becoming Young Leaders
This term P6n have been taking part in the Active Schools “Young Leaders” programme at the Gilbertson Park Games Hall. This training qualifies the class to plan and deliver games and activities to the younger pupils in the school, as they become playground leaders (buddies). P6n have worked hard during these sessions and are looking forward to putting their new skills into practice!
Designing Board Games
This term P7S have been reading ‘The Brilliant World of Tom Gates’ as their class novel. As part of this, they were set the task in their cooperative learning groups, of designing a board game based around the theme of the character Tom Gates. The board games are great and we’re looking forward to showing them off at the learner led event!
Jubilee Dance
Bell’s Brae Primary Jubilee Dance
The Primary 7 classes are planning a Family Dance with music by the Fustra to celebrate Bell’s Brae Primary Schools 60th Anniversary. The Primary 7 pupils are taking responsibility for organising the dance and plan to use the proceeds from the event towards their Primary 7 Edinburgh Trip and Activity Week in June.
The Dance will be held on Thursday 28th September from 18:30 – 20:30. There will also be a supper provided and raffle tickets will be on sale on the evening.
Tickets will be sold on a first come first served basis. Due to Fire Regulations 200 tickets will be made available.
Tickets are priced at £4 per adult, £2 per child or a family ticket can be purchased for £10 – this will admit two adults and two children. As this is a family night children must be accompanied by an adult.
If you would like to purchase tickets look out for a letter in your child’s school bag or download a copy from the letter’s page on the website.
We are delighted that the Fustra has offered to support us with this event and are sure it will be a fun, memorable evening to mark our Jubilee Year.
Shetland Wool Week – Bairns Classes
Primary 5 Screenplay
On Thursday 31st of August both Primary 5 classes went to Mareel to watch Dhanak (Rainbow) which was being shown as part of the Screenplay festival.
Before going we watched the trailer and then worked in groups to predict what we thought was going to happen in the film.
Everyone really enjoyed the film which was in Hindi with subtitles. This was a new experience for all. We then attended a workshop with other schools to discuss and retell the story of the film.
Since watching Dhanak both classes have been researching facts about India and using these to create fact files. We have also begun writing our own adventure story.
Both classes would like to thank the parent helpers who accompanied us on the trip.
Learner Led Event Primary 1-7 and ASN
We are now in the process of preparing for our Learner-Led Event for Primary 1-7 and ASN and warmly invite you to visit the school with your child on Thursday 21 September.
Learner Led Events are a chance for your child to share their learning with you. They will be able to talk you through their learning and share some of the work they have done and how they feel about it.
Letters will be in schoolbags today with more details and can also be found on our website letters page.
New School Session
Welcome back to everyone for the start of another school year.
What a lovely start to the term we have had. All our new pupils have settled in so well and it has been lovely to hear all their holiday news.
Apologies for all the letters at the start of term but we want to keep you informed and share information with you. All our letters can be found under the parent section of the website.
As always please get in touch with a member of school staff if you have any questions or queries.
Recreational Badminton P5-7
Active Schools, along with parent volunteer and club coach Zoe Anderson, have arranged to run Recreational Badminton sessions for pupils of all abilities after school on Mondays for P5, P6 & P7 pupils.
As before, we would be help needed from parents to ensure the sessions can run smoothly. For parent helpers, no badminton skills or experience is necessary, just a willingness to work with children, and to give up some time. The more parents that come on board, the less commitment would be required and you would always be volunteering alongside another adult.
The sessions will be held in Anderson High School Games Hall and there are 2 sessions to choose from. The first session will run from 4pm to 5pm and the second will run from 5pm to 6pm on the following dates:
Monday 28th August – Monday 25th September (inc)
There will be 25 spaces available at each session, which will be allocated on a first come first served basis. If your child is interested please contact me on sanna.aitken@shetland.gov.uk or by calling 744052 before Friday 25th August.
If you are interested in helping at these sessions please let me know in your e-mail or phone call.
Your child should wear appropriate clothing and footwear and bring some water. Equipment will be provided.
Please ensure that your child knows about arrangements for getting to the Anderson High School and getting home.
Any questions please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Punctuality Statement
We are writing to inform you of our School’s punctuality statement.
Over the past few years we have seen an increase in the number of pupils arriving after 0900 in the morning. One day we had 22 pupils arriving late for school.
We are really keen to work with parents/carers to see this improve and have therefore developed, with support from the Parent Council, the attached statement and letters .
