P5H Homework and Reminders – w/b 19.5.17

Good morning everyone I hope you are enjoying your weekend.  We are now about to start our last full week in P5, where has the year gone?  Please continue reading for your homework and reminders.

Spelling: Spelling is slightly different again this week. Diamonds and Emeralds please revise all of this term’s (18.4.17 – 19.4.17) words for your final spelling assessment on Friday. There is no written spelling homework this week.

Personal Reading Challenge: Your Personal Reading Challenge continues, there is now only 1 week left to reach  the target you set yourselves! Please remember to bring your book to school as this will allow you to read it during ERIC time. Remember to keep recording the books you have completed this term in your Reading Passport.

Assembly: Our assembly is on Wednesday 21st beginning at 1.30pm. Please continue to practice the song for our assembly at home. You can find the song words here. If you have a speaking part, please practice your lines at home. Remember you will not have words on the day.

  1. The dress rehearsal for our assembly is on Tuesday 20th. All costumes should be brought into school in a clearly labelled plastic bag by Monday 19th.
  2. Due to our assembly we may be doing our P.E. either in the class or outside. Our days may vary so please you have a full kit with you plus suitable outdoor clothing every day. Also remember to bring a water bottle with you.
  3. Report card comment slips and parent questionnaires should be returned as soon as possible.
  4. As discussed in class we are no longer visiting the library on Thursday. Please remember to return your library book to school by Wednesday 21st as I will be returning them to the library after school.
  5. The Summer Reading Challenge has now started. If you would like to take part, please click here to see all the details.
  6. Please remember to bring in a suitable bag to take home all of your work from this term as soon as possible.

Good afternoon everyone I hope you are enjoying your weekend.  I hope you are ready for another busy week which includes our open afternoon! Please continue reading for your homework and reminders.

Spelling: Spelling is slightly different this week. Diamonds and Emeralds please complete your u,ar list in your spelling homework jotter for Thursday (listed under 19.6.17). Please write out your spelling words 3 times using SaCaWaC in the same way as we do in class. Remember that part of this process is to check and correct your spelling words. Any corrections you have from last week should be completed as part of this week’s homework. You should then choose the 6 spelling words you think you can write the best sentences for and write an up-levelled sentence for each of them. This week we are again focusing on using an interesting openers (you can use any type you want this week).

Sapphires – Please revise all of your spelling words from 8.5.17 – 12.5.17 in preparation for your spelling assessment on Friday.

Please read each question carefully so you understand fully what is being asked of you and the type of operation which should be used.

Each answer should show all workings and include a sentence answer. This task should be completed and returned to school by Thursday.

  1. It is estimated that the iceberg the Titanic hit was 60 feet above the water. If you can only see 1/5 of an iceberg above the water how big was the iceberg altogether?
  2. The Titanic had 20 lifeboats on her. There were 2 wooden cutter lifeboats that could hold 40 people each, 10 wooden lifeboats that could hold 65 people each and 8 collapsible life boats that could hold 47 people each. How many passengers could the lifeboats hold altogether?
  3. The look out on the Titanic first saw the iceberg at 11.40pm on April 14th. The first distress rocket was fired at 12.45am April 15th. How long did it take before the order to fire the rocket was given?
  4. The order to launch the lifeboats was given at 12.05am and 30 minutes later the first life boat was launched. What time was the first life boat launched?
  5.  Challenge Question: There were 4 people in a 3rd class cabin on the Titanic.  Passenger 1 brought – 3 pairs of trousers, 6 pairs of pants, 3 shirts and 6 socks.  Passenger 2 brought – 4 pairs of trousers, 7 pairs of pants, 5 shirts and 7 pairs of socks. Spelling: Please complete lists a,o or mixed, in your spelling homework jotter for Thursday (listed under 12.6.17 – sorry). Please write out your spelling words 3 times using SaCaWaC in the same way as we do in class. Remember that part of this process is to check and correct your spelling words. Any corrections you have from last week should be completed as part of this week’s homework. You should then choose the 6 spelling words you think you can write the best sentences for and write an up-levelled sentence for each of them. This week we are again focusing on using an interesting opener for each sentence (as discussed in class) and I will be assessing your use of them. However, this does not mean I am not checking for ambitious vocabulary and fantastic connectives too. We are trying to use all of these to make your sentences the best they can be.

  3. Please remember to bring any empty, clean 2l bottles you may have for one of our Titanic science tasks (8th June).  Each group will need 3 clean, plastic bottles so please discuss this with your group members. If you have any extra it would be great if you could also bring these in.

P7M – Speed, Distance & Time Homework

Please complete this in your Maths Homework jotter for Monday 5th June. Write the date, title and show all of your working. Write the answer in a sentence to show you have understood the question. You may use a calculator but show all of your working. Use the formula and example question below to help you achieve marks.

Example question: Andrew drove a distance 70 km in 2 hours. What is was his average speed?

speed = distance ÷ time so,  70km ÷ 2 = 35 km per hour

Andrew’s average speed was 35 kilometres per hour.

  1. Jason rides his bicycle for 3 hours at a speed to 40 km/h. What distance does he travel?
  2. The red bus takes 6 hours to cover a distance of 540 km. What is its speed of travel?
  3. Sue’s dog needs 4 hours to reach her house which is 20 km away. At what speed does it travel?
  4. The amusement park is 576 km away from Mel’s house. The speed limit is 90 km/h. His dad manages to drive there in 6 hours. Did Mel’s dad break the speed limit?
  5. Joey ran at a speed of 18 km/h for a total of 2 hours. How much distance did he cover?
  6. The Lockheed SR-71 was the fastest aircraft in the world and could fly at a maximum speed of 193 mph. Assuming it maintained this as its constant speed, how far could it travel in 5 hours?

  2. Our Fairtrade Tuckshop is on every Wednesday. Please remember to check our rota to see if you are in charge of the tuckshop this week. If you wish to buy something, please remember to bring the exact money to school. Details of prices can be found here.
  3. Please remember each group needs 3 empty water bottles (2l in size) for an activity we will be working on next week.
  4. Trip money and consent form should be returned to school as soon as possible.

Please ensure you have a full kit in class and remember to bring a water bottle with you as you will be working hard and you need to stay hydrated. We may take our P.E. outside on Thursday (if the weather stays nice) so please ensure you have suitable outdoor clothing with you.

This task should be completed for Thursday 1st June. Your core reader should be brought to school with you each Thursday to allow you to participate in the class lesson. You should then choose the 6 spelling words you think you can write the best sentences for and write an up-levelled sentence for each of them. This week we are  again focusing on using an interesting opener for each sentence and I will be assessing your use of them. However, this does not mean I am not checking for ambitious vocabulary and fantastic connectives too. We are trying to use all of these to make your sentences the best they can be.

Reading: Your new core reader was issued on Wednesday by Mrs. Livingstone and you were also assigned your homework. You should complete this task ready for your follow up activities with Mrs. Livingstone on Wednesday 17th May.
