Sanitary Products

North Lanarkshire Council has made sanitary products available to all pupils in North Lanarkshire schools.  For the Council, the provision of sanitary products programme has two aims. The first is to tackle a poverty-related injustice in a non-stigmatising manner; the second is to confront taboos that surround the issue of periods.

Sanitary products are freely available to all pupils in Chryston High School.  They are in toilets in “help yourself” baskets.

Attendance Information

Reporting an absence

If your child is absent at the start of the day, you will receive a text message.  You should reply to the text message stating a reason for the absence.  You are no longer required to send an absence note upon your child’s return.  You will receive a text each day of the absence.

Requesting permission for medical appointments or informing us of any other planned absence

You should send a text message stating the reason for and duration of the planned absence.  Again, you do not need to provide a letter upon your child’s return.  You will receive a text stating, “You can reply to this text to notify us of a planned absence.”  This is to ensure all parents have an open text to which they can reply.

Scottish National Standardised Assessments S3 Pupils

This letter for S3 Parents about SNSA and this information leaflet  was emailed to S3 parents.  If you did not receive them please update your email address with the school office.

All pupils in third year in Scottish schools will undertake the Scottish National Standardised Assessment (SNSA).  The main purpose of the assessment is to provide information for teachers on how well children are doing in literacy and numeracy and to help guide learning and teaching.  The assessments are also designed to produce national-level information about children and young people’s progress for teachers’ use in school and the Scottish Government at national level. National level information covers the whole of Scotland and not individual schools.  Your child will complete the assessment in April.

The Scottish Government has created a dedicated website where you will find more information.

What’s it like being in S6?

We asked some S6 pupils what it’s like to be the oldest in the school.

Morgan: It’s ok.  You don’t do anything during free periods apart from sit down and study. It’s quite stressful during exams and prelims. It’s quite boring because of the amount of studying that we do in S6. It’s good getting to know the younger pupils.  It’s a good bonding experience.

Zara: It’s quite different from all the other years and you have more priorities. There’s a bit more pressure because you’re thinking about your future.  It’s a bit more sad and exciting because you’re leaving at the end of the year.
