Ben Nevis Challenge 2016

20160618_151208Our first ever school organised Ben Nevis Challenge took place on Saturday 18th June, 2016 where 37 pupils and 8 members of staff were accompanied by 4 mountain leaders in a sponsored climb for Macmillan and World Challenge.

It was a very warm and sunny day and the views from the summit were spectacular! Everyone did really well on the day, and everyone achieved something very special.  Three out of the four groups managed to reach the summit, and everyone had an enjoyable day.

So far we have raised just over £1800 for Macmillan and £580 for our World Challenge expedition to Southern Tanzania. This is an amazing amount of money and everyone should be so proud of themselves.

Barry Hutchison Visit

S1 pupils from Chryston High enjoyed a visit from Scottish Award winning Author Barry Hutchison on Thursday 9th June. Barry was in the school to promote his new book series ‘Beaky Malone: The World’s Greatest Liar.’ and to talk to pupils about what inspired him to be an author. A selected group of pupils also had the chance to take part in a creative writing workshop with Barry in the School Library. All pupils thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to engage with Barry and listening to his funny stories from his childhood.

German Concert with Martina Schwarz

Yesterday’s concert, held in conjunction with the Goethe Institut in Glasgow, was a roaring success.  Over two sessions, P5-7 pupils from our 5 cluster primary schools had the opportunity to take part in an interactive concert in German to reinforce some of the language they have been learning at school.

Pupils sang along to songs, danced the Animal Tango and used props to help their understanding.

Thanks again to the Goethe Institut and Martina Schwarz for helping us to strengthen our transition programme with the primary schools.
