Global Citizenship

Global Citizenship develops the knowledge and understanding, skills, values and attitudes that learners need to ensure a more just, secure and sustainable world for all. Our vision is for all Whinhill pupils to understand and care about what happens locally, nationally and globally but also recognise their role and responsibility in bringing about lasting change. All of our school committees have the same goal of helping us all to become Global Citizens through a variety of different channels.

Global Goals

At Whinhill Primary School we are working to increase the awareness of Global Goals across all stages and these are being implemented within the classroom and learning activities. We have a focus Global Goal of the Month each month and this is discussed in classes and at assemblies. Our Global Citizenship committee have designed a poster to displayed in each class as well as areas around the school to show all Global Goal and also highlight the Global Goal of the Month.

Celebrating Diversity

At Whinhill, we believe it is important to celebrate and showcase diversity throughout the school.

We recently had a group of children plan and present our Diversity Assembly, which allowed them to share their differences with others and promote the message that we are the same but different and that diversity is our superpower.

A group of children worked with SLT to undertake a Diversity Walk. This involved looking around to school to see how we already celebrated diversity and to identify areas for further development. The children were evaluating displays to see if they reflected our diverse school community and made suggestions to ensure all pupils were represented. As a result of this we have recently updated our languages corridor to incorporate all languages spoken by pupils in our school.

Links with other schools

Our Primary 6 pupils have linked with Chuini Primary School in Zanzibar. The children in both schools have written letters to each other to share information and compare similarities and differences in cultures. This project has allowed the children to develop a deeper understanding of a different culture and show respect for others around the world.

Our School Values: Confidence, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility and Kindness
