Digital Wellbeing

Digital Wellbeing & Online Safety

Digital wellbeing is a term used to describe the impact of technologies and digital services on people’s mental, physical, social and emotional health. Our young people are growing up in a world where technology has always been present for them, which can have both a positive and negative impact on their lives.

Benefits of online use:

  • Keeps young people in communication with their friends, families and wider community.
  • Provides a source for education.
  • Widens students experience and knowledge of the world.
  • Fun way to spend time.

Risks of online use:

  • Potential exposure to inappropriate, mature content or negative influences.
  • Risks of privacy breaches or over sharing.
  • Young people are more vulnerable to grooming or online abuse.
  • Potential overuse.

As a school, we are currently working to develop our pupils understanding of being safe online and their digital wellbeing. As part of this, our Digital Leaders from 2023-2024 made an informational video and poster to share with all the pupils. They feel it is also important to share this with our parents and wider community and have made an additional guide to support parents.
