STEM

STEM at Whinhill

We love STEM at Whinhill and recognise the increasing importance of our children acquiring these skills in todays society. STEM is an interdisciplinary approach to learning coupled with hands on, problem based learning. Taking part in STEM activities allows children to learn about science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The classes in our school participate in a variety of STEM projects throughout the year.

This year P6/5 have taken part in egg drop challenges, paper tower challenges, designed and built a space lander and created a marble run:

P4 have been busy creating Christmas trees for their classroom door, making marble runs, and designing and building a catapult:

P5 were challenged to build a trap to catch a mythical creature and build a tower from paper:

GP4-7 also had fun making their own marble runs and taking part in an egg drop challenge:

Our children love taking part in STEM challenges such as making lava lamps, creating spaghetti bridges and building an igloo with marshmallows!

Taking part in STEM activities teaches our learners a variety of valuable skills for learning, life and work such as problem solving, collaborating with others, time management and creativity. These relate to and promote our Whinhill values and our learner dispositions.

Our School Values: Confidence, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility and Kindness
