Language Learning at Whinhill
Our children are growing up in a multilingual world and the ability to communicate effectively in social, academic and commercial settings is crucial if they are to develop as global citizens.
The Scottish Government’s policy, Language Learning in Scotland: A 1+2 Approach, is aimed at ensuring that every child has the opportunity to learn a modern language from P1 onwards. Each child learns a second language from P4 onwards.
At Whinhill we are currently learning French and Gaelic.
Gaelic
Our pupils (and staff) from P4-7 all learn Gaelic with Ms Bannerman once a week. Pupils are taught a range of vocabulary and given practical activities in which to test their new skills. Children within our Gaelic Medium classes offer support where possible, and help their peers to practise their use of Gaelic, in class and on the playground.
