JRSO

My name is Lucy and I am the Junior Road Safety Officer for Gourock Primary. My duties involve making sure all the children are safe whilst walking near the road. At Gourock Primary we have a ‘Walking Bus’ where pupils meet and all walk together to school.  We encourage everyone to walk to school because..

  • it’s a safe way to travel
  • it’s healthy because you are exercising
  • it cuts down pollution
  • you can walk with your friends

I have another JRSO called Alexander in P6 who helps with the two walking buses, one at Manor Crescent and one in King Street. We work with Mrs Aitken to raise awareness of why it’s important to walk to school. We have sent out letters asking parents/carers to sign a charter to say that they will drive safely around the school and not park in the bus bay. Every Friday at assembly we have to announce the winner from one class who walked the most.
