In The Fairtrade group we are responsible for educating the school about Fairtrade and where the products come from. We hold a small tuck-shop every Friday during golden-time filled with delicious chocolate and healthy fruit snacks. We ask the Fairtrade members from P1-7 to help us run the tuck-shop every Friday. Every month we visit each class to count the Fairtrade snack chart points. If pupils bring in a Fairtrade snack, they get two points on the chart. Both groups have to ensure we look after our stock, advising the office staff when new orders are needed.
We are also in charge of ordering things for the Fairtrade tuck shop. We go on the Traidcraft website and choose items to sell then complete an order form with the prices and quantities of each product. Promoting Fairtrade helps the fight against forced child labour supporting children’s rights (Article 32 You should be protected from dangerous work).
As well as this we also host a Fairtrade café once a term with the help of our classmates, teachers and parents. This is filled with delicious home-baking and Fairtrade produce (bracelets, bangles, notebooks, pens and lots more).
This year we are celebrating Fairtrade Fortnight (23rd February – 8th March) with a beat the goalie with Fairtrade footballs as well as fruit kebabs with Fairtrade fruit from our local co-op.
We look forward to continuing our work with Fairtrade and helping change lives of others with our choices.
