Description
Mathematics, and associated courses, will equip you with expertise which is much sought after and can be used across a broad spectrum of careers. Mathematical training will enable you to adapt to changing environments in the course of your career. Adaptability is just one attribute associated with mathematicians. Others, such as orderliness and precision, logical thinking and insight, are highly valued by potential employers. For these reasons all students should aim to develop their mathematical skills to as high a level as possible.
The Mathematics courses encourage students to extend their knowledge and understanding of Mathematics, logic and problem solving, and their uses in the real world.
The courses also provide the mathematical tools and techniques to solve further real life problems, and provide a sound basis for the further advancement of mathematics at College or University.
Learners will explore a wide variety of mathematical concepts in the Broad General Education, and will move on to National courses in S3.
Where pupils demonstrate competence in Third / Fourth Level Mathematics by the end of S2, they will progress on to a National 5 Mathematics course in S3.
Where pupils demonstrate competence up to Second Level Mathematics by the end of S2, they will progress on to a National 4 Mathematics course in S3.
Where pupils demonstrate competence up to First/Second Level Mathematics by the end of S2, they will progress on to a National 3 Mathematics course in S3.
Progress from National 3
Pupils who have achieved Access 3 will progress to either National 4 Lifeskills Mathematics course or Personal Finance Award course in S5, depending on level of competence demonstrated.
Progress from National 4
Pupils who have achieved National 4 will progress on to the National 5 Mathematics course or the National 5 Lifeskills Mathematics course in S5, depending on level of competence demonstrated. The majority of pupils will progress onto the Lifeskills Mathematics course.
Progress from Personal Finance Award
Pupils who have achieved Personal Finance Award will progress on to National 4 Lifeskills.
Progress from National 4 Lifeskills
